More power to lebron, I can definitely see him owning an NBA team 5-10yrs after his retirement. I don't know if it will be the cavs, now unless lebron and gilbert had a back door deal when he resigned. Something like, after he retires 2 or 3yrs later, he'll come in as a President and then 5yrs or so later, he'll sell to lebron. Also don't be surprised if lebron goes on to have ownership in an NFL or MLB team as well. This man will make power moves when it's all said and done.

Another thing, I don't understand why people trip out about majority owners of pro teams being white? It's clear that 9 out of 10 teams are family owned and get passed down from generation to generation. Obviously in some cases when teams do go up for sale, it doesn't matter if you're white or black, green is the only thing that matters. Now unless someone can show proof that a team was sold to a white man even though the black person was the higher bidder. Now obviously GM, president and coaches are a completely different story

why do people think he'll buy the cavs ?? Dan gilbert is rich as shyt with 0 incentive to sell the team especially if they win another championship

plus by time bron retires the team will be worth 1.5-2 billion.. what 1.5-2billion lebron got to spend ?

Even if he got the cash someone gotta be willing to sell. I doubt courting prospective buyers would be particularly difficult for any NBA team.

the average valuation of NBA franchise currently is 1.36 billion... lebron got what? 1/3rd of that at best ? its not a loan.. you need the actual cash to buy the shyt

unless lebron invests in something else and triples his networth and spends it all in 1 blow on a team buying a team out right is not in the plans - ever. Best he can do is what Magic did with the Dodgers and start a partnership firm that just absorbs all investments with other million/billionaires

MJ got the bob cats when the teams were cheaper..

Lebron doesn't need to buy an "average" squad, he could target a cheap one. Various sources say that he's worth $400-500 million right now, he has at least one more huge contract and plenty of endorsement money left (made $71 million last year alone), with everything he's got going on and especially the Nike deal he'll be close to $1 billion by the time he retires.

I think he'll put together an ownership team and do it. Probably not 100% at first, but a decent chance at 51%. Especially if television keeps taking the hit it's been taking, there could be a devaluation in teams after the current deals run out.
