You have to understand: guys like DrX aren't interested in hip hop. They're pop fans. Whatever's popular they'll listen to it without a second thought. That easily disposable non-threatening dull basic shyt... they can relate to it.

We've seen their type before. They come and go.
ironic that he was talking about young thug not being around in 7 years, because trap wont be around then either :laff:

Some of them are really talented though.

You can tell this beat had a ton of work put into it. Probably hours and hours finding the right sounds, tweaking the synths and bass synth, pitch bending the bass and drums, layering and sequencing it, tweaking the delays and effects, adding in the vocal samples. Crazy shyt.

As a beat maker who both samples and does "trap"...
(1) I agree...Today's producers are MORE talented than the old school samplers...

(2) It is NOT easy trying to make an 808 sound BOOMING while not distorting the other instruments...

(3) It is more creative using all the EDM techniques like filter passes, pitch bending, sidechain compression and such

(4) It takes A LOT more time to produce a "Trap" beat than it is to sample...If a sample producer tells me he made a beat in 15 minutes, I believe him...If a trap producer tells me the same, I call :duck:

(5) With all that stated, I will conclude that it is not easier or harder to make a trap beat vs a sample beat and vice versa...

Today's VST instruments and effects are SO DOPE that they can transform a simple 3 note melody into a mosaic of sounds...A lot of them have ready made melodies and sequences...

(6) Final thought, the Trap/Drill sound is so GOOD that you don't need to be a good rapper,,,I don't think you can be a good rapper on a trap/drill beat...Those beats have TOO MANY sounds going...Rapper are forced to keep it simple...

It is like EDM...You just need a nice voice with a nice melody and not too many words...

Lex Luger samples in his trap beats. A lot of trap producers use samples and stock loops because they're terrible with keyboards. Some people keep an arpeggio hitting one note and layer looped trap drums underneath.
The appeal of trap is in the engineering. Trap can be made with samples.

These are 10-15 minute tricks on Fl studio...it doesn't take any time...Trap beats are actually REAAALLLY easy to make.
You just layer the 808s....nikkas already have kits ready...and automation, effects are added after the beat is sequenced...You can layer automation over your main track and have it turn off and on at certain times...sidechain compression, filters, etc.

Do you make beats? If you don't you shouldn't be looking so deeply into it. Fans like you make magic out of really simple shyt and it's an insult to true artists.

sampling is what hip hop is built on, im sick of this narrative that sampling takes no skill.. you couldn't juggle two records on turntables to make the simplest of loops. (which is how it started) stop it fam :smh:

do you know how to take a bassline from one track and sample just that ? and lay your own melodies.. because that's common as well.

meanwhile we got the biggest star in hip pop, not writing his own rhymes

lowpass filter...turn them hi's all the way down...and then bass boost that frequency...you can even chop pieces of the sampled bassline up to match your drums like a weird sidechained 808.

One of the main problems with trap beats is that they're too loud and too over produced

The beauty of boom bap is that it's a relatively simplistic best which allows the MC to rhyme and convey their words more easily for the listener.

My problem with trap beats after a while they all sound the same. Also they're all digital, probably just sound effects, synthetic tweaks in built to Fruity Loops

Everyone can't just dig in the crates and chop a sample

they actually create their own music...alot of these sou;l samplers loop samples also...the real reason hiphop heads hate trap beats are because of the shytty rappers that rap on them....If nas hoped on a sonny digital beat, magically sonny would be that nikka in agmonst hiphop heads....hiphop heads are sheep just like the causal fans

We just need conscious lyrical dudes on the trap sound...imagine a modern day cube or tupac on a groovy 808...that shyt would change the game....

I think these guys waste their talent working with these bum ass rappers....if they want to become legends, they need rappers that can bring substance to their tracks...whos going to listen to young thug 7 years from now?

so dont hate the producer, hate the "artist"

Nas has an archaic nostalgic flow and delivery... it resonates better with boom bap because of the focus on lyrics

Trap beats force you to flow a certain way ...and you sacrifice lyrics for sonics... it's why Migos sound great but ain't really sayin sh!t
