I'm an old school head and love boom bap, but trap can be dope if it's done with some originality..it's just 99% of the beats sound exactly the same..someone like Harry fraud is good because he mixes the old school style sampling with modern drums. And making sampled beats is way harder than making trap..trap beats are driven by the 808s and drums, they're not melodic at all, tryna chop a sample or loop and making the melody fit the other elements is much more difficult

Lex Luger samples in his trap beats. A lot of trap producers use samples and stock loops because they're terrible with keyboards. Some people keep an arpeggio hitting one note and layer looped trap drums underneath.
The appeal of trap is in the engineering. Trap can be made with samples.

I like trap but to be honest it's the safest way for nikkas to get into rap these days. Simple ass hooks they think they can blow up off of and a fukkin mixtape of 15 songs of that would bore me. Pretty soon no one is gonna wanna hear that shyt because of so many people cloning each other and playing it safe. And that goes for boom bap too. Whatever style of this shyt you do, just make it interesting, imo.

You know that VST you used on final straw? I made a beat in 2009 using the SAME EXACT synth.
