Remove CM Punk from the equation. Anyone who was champ going into the Rumble was guaranteed to lose to The Rock (Ryback, Bryan, etc.). Only person who would have been immune to that and who might have picked up the win was Cena. WWE booked themselves into a corner by allowing Rock to still have that title shot.

The Rock wasn't why they were in the corner u saw them in. Incohesive booking was. Everyone gets booked to lose to Taker by WM..so is every opponent on the road to facing him booked in a corner. It makes no sense to see it in that context. U being the pro Michaels fan u are.. u should of known better than that considering the roads to WM 25 and 26.

Seth Rollins had an attitude problem that almost got him fired in developmental. He fixed it and was made the top heel of the company. But nah, Punk just got screwed over. In the end, Punk's long reign meant nothing at all anyway, and Ryback would have been established as an actual top guy and continued on. Imagine Warrior or Goldberg losing that big title match. Would have killed them, too.

Then he shouldn't have been put into a position where he was headlining PPVs and losing would kill his gimmick. But he was. And as such, him beating Punk for the title would have been far more beneficial for his career than Rock, even if he dropped it back a month or two later.

They had no plans of ever making him the top guy. Just stop. If they did, he wouldn't have been opening the show as the champ on pay per view while cena vs Kane in a throwaway feud closes the show. If they ever had real plans for him then he wouldn't have been defending the title an hour into a pay per view while John cena vs Johnny ace closes the show and a month later cena vs big show goes on last. Roman got the push because he has the look Vince so desperately wants in a top guy. It sure as hell isn't because he's drawing viewers in and getting the desired reactions from the crowd.
