Rock doesn't own the WWE so that weak line of thinking doesn't work. They derailed Ryback to push a non drawing CM Punk. Punk was on that podcast saying he didn't even want to be heel and Vince was gonna go with Bryan as heel against Rock at Rumble. Punk played politics and thought he could talk them into giving him a W. So your own boy clowned your perspective and logic on the entire matter.

Remove CM Punk from the equation. Anyone who was champ going into the Rumble was guaranteed to lose to The Rock (Ryback, Bryan, etc.). Only person who would have been immune to that and who might have picked up the win was Cena. WWE booked themselves into a corner by allowing Rock to still have that title shot.

I'm referring to the Rumble, not Mania. People on TSC claim Ryback should have beaten Punk at one of the fall PPV's, however Ryback would have had his momentum come to a screeching halt because of facing The Rock at the Rumble and losing to him.

In the end, Punk's long reign meant nothing at all anyway, and Ryback would have been established as an actual top guy and continued on. Imagine Warrior or Goldberg losing that big title match. Would have killed them, too.

That heel run to cap off the year long reign was Punk's best work in my opinion. He even got Rock off his game a couple of times (that strip naked line ). You could really feel the frustration emanating from his pores during each promo. Amazing he held that championship for longer than anyone in recent memory and it's basically a footnote in history five years later.

How great would it be if they let Reigns keep the title long enough to beat Punk's reign and all the while have him beating each and every smark darling on the roster, from AJ Styles to Sami Zayn. It'd be glorious
