There are quite a few Nigerians on this forum, so let's see if we can get this thread going again

Anyone been in contact with relatives in Nigeria? What are their experiences like in lockdown?

Unfortunately my sis' business has taken a bit of a hit

It's a shame Aladum of Igbo went out like he did.

Talked to my mom today and she said (in Abuja) there's definitely a lot more begging going on. No real increase in crime though. There's a real need to find localized solutions for this thing. A country like Nigeria can't do a lockdown when so much of the population works in the informal sector.

The crash of oil prices has also forced the government to ask itself some very hard questions concerning restructuring the federation to give the states more autonomy to generate internal revenue.

Lowkey, Nigeria is getting lapped by smaller countries (Ghana, CIV, Kenya, Ethiopia). The country cannot afford another 3-4 years of 1-3% growth. We need to see min. of 5% YoY growth, especially factoring population growth.

Nigerians are occupying prisons across the world, a couple dozen on death row for drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia and many others across Asia.

Their population exploded in the 50s and has grown exponentially since. It is not sustainable and all their progress is generally eliminated by gross unequal distribution.

I can confirm what @phcitywarrior has said in regard to how people are being affected. My Dad lives in Nigeria and he and a few of his friends put some money together to provide a little something for the elderly and vulnerable in their community. It isn't a lot but it's something.

One child policy is not a fix to the actual issue. It’s economic development that’s needed.

Nigeria has been underperforming for way too long, and it's frustrating because the fix is so simple. We don't really need any drastic solutions, despite what some people on the coli would have you think

Trafficked Nigerian women rescued from Lebanon

Fifty trafficked Nigerian women have been rescued from Lebanon and returned home, Nigeria's foreign minister says.

They have all been placed in quarantine following their arrival on Sunday as a precaution against coronavirus.

The country's anti-trafficking agency will interview them about their experiences after their isolation ends.

Last month, a Nigerian woman working as a maid in Lebanon was rescued after being put up for sale on Facebook for $1,000 (£807).

Glad they're coming back home, but Over the years so many Nigerian women have been trafficked to the Mediterranean

Not a cac he was Nigerian/Igbo but I feel VERY stupid following him on this "crusade."
