They said the same thing about my nephew. Sister and brother in law got a 2nd opinion. Kid turned out fine.

This. Came in here to say exactly this.

Heard stories like this when a couple was advised to abort after the 20 week checkup but the baby was born with no issues. Imagine if they had actually taken that advice upfront. shyt makes me shudder to think about.

Good luck to your friend; either way, he'll need your support.

Its not cool that the doctor is telling them to abort. All he/she needed to do was to inform them that the baby may have down syndrome and if that's not something they want to deal with then abortion is an option.

If they don't want to abort then now is the time for them to start looking into programs, support groups, etc to help them.

This is a difficult situation to be in.

I wish them the best.

I'm assuming there are other medical abnormalities at play because most down syndrome have issues w/ other organ systems.

Its a very difficult decision. Dont know what I'd do in the same situation. I'd hope id be string enough to have the child but i don't know.

Only 20% of people with a disability have a paid job...and then people with Downs only live to about to 60....and they will need financial, legal and medical assistance all their life...

Having child with a disability isn't as bad as it is 30 years ago...but it isn't ideal...

So will all human beings breh. Stop acting like this isn't just a completely selfish decision based on the parents' interests rather than the child's.

Where do you draw the line? Should your parents have aborted you because you're not able to maintain a positive rep on a message board and have to rely on the moderators' tolerance of your presence here?

Me and my wife already talked about that before the testing was done, we said we would abort. Having a special needs child overwhelmingly leads to divorce, it's a huge burden.

His first born baby is diagnosed with downs and the doctors are telling him and his wife to abort.

He asked me for advice and I simply said I can't even imagine making this kind of a decision.

Adding to the grieve, both of them are super religious. Your typical church goers that are always there for Sunday service.

If they abort the child and conceive again...it'll be the same soul (baby) entering that embryos body...but I don't believe in abortions...not judgin' tho......I wish the best for you and your friend's situation!!!...
