I never liked Minstrel Show & it kinda made me stop fukking with them. I actually think it might be something to do with the mastering cuz it honestly just sounds flat & off-putting to my ears. They also were way extra bitter seeming with it, whereas on The Listening they seemed more well-adjusted, and less serious bout their hating (& seemed more concerned with clarifying that they WERENT your typical "underground lyrically lyrical/poetry slam/backpack" types).
My favorite part of the Minstrel Show was the Percy Miracles track, -- cause unlike the rest the album it was actually done with a good sense of humor. Then Phonte went all butthurt & killed that off too...

"Speed" "Too Far Away From Me" & "Yo Yo" will forever be classics.
I feel the exact same way. Minstrel Show came off corny and too forced at times in between skits and the concept was just played to me. The album had no replay value and the mastering was not good. The Listening was a straight up surprise to a lot of people including myself when it dropped. No one knew who they were but they just came through and dropped an album that was just so organic and natural. Nighttime maneuvers and the way you do it is so fukking smooth and chill. Hell oven the Nicolay remixes are amazing. Even on Shorty On The Lookout the way the beat breaks off at the end into another sample is :dwillhuh: still
9th was in a zone.

The Listening, but I have alot tied into that album so that's probably why that's getting my vote over The Minstrel Show. My freshman year of college in 02, I remember catching them at a show at the old Knitting Factory in NYC when I had no idea who they were. I had went to see Dilla but that is when he first started getting sick and he didn't show for that concert, only reason I stayed was because Primo was going to feature his group(wack ass NYGz) but LB just blew me away. I remember going home and downloading whatever I could find on Soulseek at the time(only like 5 joints), then waiting for The Listening to finally drop and copping it from Sandbox. That album pretty much held me down my entire freshman year, studied with it, slept with it, went from class to class with it on my headphones. I gotta alot of memories tied to the album.

Oh wow, didin't think it'd be this lopsided, but personally the listening came at perfect time for me where i 'hated' the underground passionately after getting over the rawkus era...i had goosebumps listening the first time, a little rough album (sonically), but no skippable track.

The minstreal show. That shyt just flowed like a warm cooked meal from ya moms. The concepts, the production, the lyrics, the samples, hooks, skits, and verses lol. verything about that album just flowed. Thank my homie for puttin me on to them. Personal Classic. The Listening, Chitlin Circuit 1.5, and Seperate but equal mixtape a long with Foreign Exchange projects is just timeless. Yea I said it :yayo:

What do ya'll like better, Chitlin Circuit 1 or 1.5?

The first one. They took a few of my favorite LB tracks (Intergalactic Soul, Tension, and I See Now with Kanye)for some unknown reason and it was paled in comparison. Another slept on LB banger from Illmind and Symbolic One's Art of One Mind album.
