While this whole association was all smoke and mirrors. Let's not act like Irv didn't have access to some of the hottest production at the time. Dude made Ja Rule listenable, and helped him craft some solid albums. With Nas he would have made him a big commercial success and I don't think there would have been a lyrical dropoff Nas in 01-02 was :ahh: So people overreact and think dude would start crooning. Say what you want but Irv knew how to play to peoples strengths and cover their weaknesses. Ashanti would not have popped off on another label, no matter how fine.

I think it would have worked, musically wise. If we take away all of Ja's mainstream hits, some of his album cuts definitely had some good street production. Also, we can look at the Irv Gotti compilations like "Presents the Inc" and "The Murderers" to know that a Nas album definitely wouldn't have been all pop tomfoolery. Irv did say he wanted to take Nas higher in the mainstream world, and Nas rejected that, so there would probably be the 2-3 poppy singles, and then the rest of the album left for real shyt. "The Pledge" is the only sample we have to go off of, and I dig it. It's a blend of kind of a dark beat, with the obligatory Ashanti hook, and Nas spitting Escobar style. If we think back to Ja's '"Last Temptation" album, which dropped around the Nas time, remember the song "Murder Reigns"? I think that would be a perfect single for Nas. "The Warning" maybe too.

Irv wasn't dumb, he obviously knew Nas' struggled to come across well on mainstream records. Even though Ja's albums had steered all the way mainstream at this time, he surely wouldn't have went that way with the great Nas. Irv had a team of hitters like 7th Aurelius (Channel 7), Jimi Kendrix, Chink Santana. The Murder Inc sound has become so polished and cinematic (like someone said above), that I would have loved to see what type of street shyt they would match to Nas.

Career-wise, we won't know what would have happened. The 50 Cent war was impending. Another speculated reason Nas may have backed out (besides not wanting that much fame), did he really want to goto battle with The Inc against 50 Cent and Aftermath? Would we have seen Nas and Em throwing jabs at each other? Is it possible with Nas, The Inc could have won the battle (in the eyes of the fans?) Nas has only lightly tapped 50 on "Dont Body Yourself", which seemed like a warning. For a period of time, Ja was told not to go at 50 on wax (because of the trial), would Nas have been able to step up and go at 50 hard?

Some Nas fans liked to brush past that moment of history, but the Murder Inc dynamic was interesting, no matter how you looked at it.

Nas' my favorite rapper, but early on I learned that this dude just makes some dumb decisions.

You learn to accept some of his wild shyt
How did u learn that? From gossip? Because Irv was boosting his involvement to try to lock him down. Nas said it was never gonna happen...

The nikka that makes dumb decision if the top 3 most relevant rapper in terms of longevity in the game. Just some perspective. If Nas is dumb then tell me why he outlived all these other rappers?

I'm glad that fell thru. A NAS album on murder inc during that time frame would have made nastradamus look like a classic in comparison. Imagine, every song would be featuring some wack ass Ashanti or ja-rule sung hook :scusthov:

Not really plus nastradamus wasn't bad or r&bish he had that 1 song. Outside of that it was a usual nas album. Illmatic was a gift & a curse dude really has no weak album.

He didn't want to look like he did in the You owe me video. It's already proven that he sells less and loses fans when he tries that shyt. Dude is not good at writing or flowing over club bangers or shyt that a broader audience can vibe too. Gotti could never make nas a bigger star, just a bigger "sell out".

Nas can flow over club bangers is just people don't want to hear him on club bangers they hold him to a higher standard
