This is happening is metros across the country but I can’t identify a true solution for the homelessness problem America has because it’s a combination of things that have led to where it is today.

Most of these areas have programs in place but the overall impact of them is minimal and that’s mostly because homelessness is a lifestyle more than anything else.

and it certainly isn't "far-Left." Its largely Democratic by population but a good chunk of California is Republican - hence why social programme updates are routinely killed by conservatives in power.

So conservatives are the reason that the homeless situation has exploded in that area over the last decade or so?

That is not what I said.

What I said was: "California is no more corrupt than every other state in the Union, and it certainly isn't "far-Left." Its largely Democratic by population but a good chunk of California is Republican - hence why social programme updates are routinely killed by conservatives in power."

Now: conservatives in the federal and state government have absolutely increased the homeless population through their cutting of mental health services, their allowance of zoning that cuts down on affordable residential housing opportunities, their austerity measures that have prevented the growth of social services, and their killing of mass-infrastructure projects that would employ tens, if not hundreds of thousands.

Plenty of technocratic centrist Dems have joined the fray in California as well, advocating for the same exact policies - and allowing for disinvestment and massive tax cuts for billionaire corporations.

This needs its own thread
Folks are in denial
The absolute vast majority of homeless people are only temporarily homeless - due to job loss, release from foster care, gaps between work and school, release from incarceration, escape from abusive households, and the job cycle.

Only an incredibly small number of non-mentally ill people are homeless as a "lifestyle."

For all these liberal vs conservative back n forth dumb shyt.....neither party cares, so all this my side is right shyt is flat out retarded

Look at all the rural red states where ppl might have homes but the shyts are glorified shacks with no plumbing and damn near dirt floors in 2020....states like Alabama....black folk getting hookworm and shyt ppl havent had in almost 100 yrs

It's not a political issue. It's just rampant greed gone unchecked that is basically creating a deeper level of have nots.

Lot of yall have no sense of nuanced, critical thinking....just parrot some shyt you prob saw in a meme

I absolutely disagree with this as a person who has been able to see it up and close from different avenues and programs that are used to assist the homeless.

Temporary homelessness shouldn’t even be in the same category to me because those folks are usually active in trying to better their situation. If they are applying themselves and the programs are available, it’s a good chance they get out of being homeless but the vast majority that I’ve seen, have taken it on as lifestyle for whatever reason.

Uhmm..... these are drops in the bucket over a half century span... money spent on the homelessness issue is not the problem... I believe LA County spent 700 million alone in 2019 in so called "policy" implementation..... if money could solve it, LA would have reined in the homeless situation a decade ago..... It's waaayyy deeper than that
The cutting of institutionalized mental health services created a massive jump in the homeless population, as did the resulting ramping of of carceral services.
The links I posted aren't only about funding for temporary housing, though that is a big factor. They explain how a system of austerity - literally cutting budgets for necessary services so you can feign a "balanced budget" (a useless measure for a state) - contributed to a homeless crisis.

Not having a robust public transportation system? Increases homelessness.
Restrictions on building new residential housing in a large city? Increases homelessness.
Lack of public mental health services? Increases homelessness.
Insecure student wrap-around services? Increases homelessness.
Refusals to implement rent ceilings? Increases homelessness.
Increased mass-incarceration and carceral surveillance services? Increases homelessness.
