so?? games at the end arent worth more than games at the begining. if they went 1-7 and then finished 10-6 that would be better?? plus they lost Cutler, nikkas acting like they had a healthy team. this firing was staight cism but Rex Ryan keeps his job SMH

Who said the new GM is going to keep Rex Ryan? The new GM doesn't have any allegiance to him.

lovie falls under that "tough break" umbrella

he not a horrible coach, and its tragic that the front office never provided him and the offense with a legitimate o line.

same time they did provide him with weapons though, and as beanie posted, he is responsible for tice, basically making him liable for the offense.

last year the bears won 5 in a row and fell apart when cutler went down, this season they were 7-1 and once again cutler got hurt. the momentum of the team took a hit.

and the nfc was just another monster this season with the emergence of teams like washington and seattle and nobody thought minny would do much. normally 10-6 gets you in.

but the front office just cant sell the fanbase on another year of lovie. which is what this is all about. if lovie was a ozzie type of character then they could sell him, but this dude just too classy for these rowdy bear fans. they want to hear some horns blazing, not " we are 8-4 with rex grossman as our quarterback" for a whole season.

im on the fence with the firing, only because im in confusion on who they can replace him with that would be credible. he coming into a defense with a lot of vets who wont just get behind anybody. we have a knuckle head qb and a weird ass wide receiver. if it aint a legit name the locker room could implode.

so if some star power follows lovie, then its cool. but if another long term d. cord or o cord comes in then this could get worst, especially if the front office once again fails to get the o line fixed. o line being bad limits forte ability to operate, it limits what the offense can do in the passing game. another TE wouldnt hurt either.

They are probably going to bring in a college coach :snoop:, GM fukking up already.

Anyone from Chicago understands it was time. Lovie had a good run here but it never came together. This team was getting stale and not evolving. The offense needed to be better this season. Appointing Mike Tice to OC was indefensible. We just have been a flukey, inconsistent team with Lovie.

Anyone calling cism, that is just ridiculous. Lovie had 9 years here and was very well liked/respected within the organization.

On the other hand.. Phil Emery is killing this press conference. Sounds like we ll open the checkbook for a left tackle.. Jake Long :shaq:

Yea im impressed he's saying all the right things. Said he believes Jay is a franchise QB and we need to put more talent around him.

He also said it'd be difficult to let urlacher walk knowing his history. :ahh:

Is jake long available? If urlacher walks, they will be able to afford him.

I was kind of suprised but not completely shocked with this firing here. While the Bears are usually competitive, they are not really seen as legitimate threats to go the Super Bowl year in and year out. I guess Bears management wants to see if they can stop being average, and start being real contenders for a title. But Lovie will get a job somewhere and probably soon.

Phil Emery: Chicago Bears 'want to win now' - NFL.com

Emery clearly believes the Bears have the talent to compete for a championship. He called Jay Cutler a franchise quarterback and said the next coach must further develop the strong-armed signal-caller. Emery also said running back Matt Forte wasn't properly used in the pass game. The defense is already stocked.

The coach must be "adaptable and flexibility to make the players we have fit toward making a run toward a championship," Emery said. "We want to win now. We want to win that championship now. It is about now."

Smith was known for his mastery of the Cover 2 defense and the entire unit was built to fit that mold. Emery said he has no 4-3 or 3-4 defensive alignment preference, but they don't have players to fit a 3-4 scheme at the moment. If they want to win now, the next coach will have to utilize those 4-3 pieces.

Bears GM Phil Emery explains why Lovie Smith was fired - CBSSports.com

“Our No. 1 goal always has to be to win championships, and to win championships we have to be in contention on a consistent basis, and to be in contention we have to make the playoffs on a consistent basis," he said Tuesday (via PFT). "We've had defensive excellence, but during the course of coach Smith's years here, we've had one offense that was ranked in the top 15.”

Phil Emery makes clear: Lovie Smith failed at building the offense | ProFootballTalk

Noting that Smith has failed to get results even after changing offensive coordinators and quarterbacks, Emery said it was time for a change to a coach who can succeed on both offense and defense, whereas Smith had only shown an ability to coach on the defensive side of the ball. Emery said the Bears’ ownership told him that the decision on Smith’s future was his and his alone, and that he decided Smith just wasn’t getting the job done.

Phil Emery hints Chicago Bears need upgrade at tight end - chicagotribune.com

“I think the important thing is that we continue to build around him,” Emery said. “When I look at our team in the past and the team that I watched on tape and the team that I watched this fall, we’ve got to get better at the midfield area of making plays. Whether that is involving Matt Forte more and again I am going to be frank: Matt was brought back and I was excited about his signing because a big part of that is him as a pass receiver. For whatever reason, whether it was protection or whether it was utilization or whether it was catching, we didn’t utilize Matt or he didn’t have the opportunity to be fully utilized.”

On Emery's Press Conference: Rapid Fire Recap | DA BEARS BLOG

Wow. Phil Emery shouts out to Stats Inc. and PFF. Good for those guys.

According to data the Bears were 26th in the league as a pass protecting offensive line.

Bears were 22nd in the league when it comes to dropped passes. (Surprised they were this high.)

Emery makes definitive statement: you have to have more playmakers than the other guys.
