They’re both monsters at their peak.
If you’re look at the vantage point of their whole careers, Elzhi is the more consistent artist, as Lupe’s artistic vision had been compromised due his beef with his label for many years. Elzhi’s sound has stayed pure and underground.
Lupe is the more versatile artist, he can sound comfy on any kind of beat, any subject, any style, any flow you pick and choose. This allows Lupe to have a higher ceiling in my opinion.
Conceptually and content it’s probably a wash, depending on how you look at it. Lyrically, it also depends how you look at it cuz stylistically they’re very different.
If you’re more of a traditionalist, Elzhi’s probably your pick
@bolded is the fukkin truthThey’re both monsters at their peak.

Yes, though Elzhi is no slouch in that department eithereither pick is not a bad pick but i feel what seperates lupe from say a elzhi is his metaphors and wordplay imo
decoding his lyrics is super it's still shyt from food and liquor that people still have not caught onto let alone the cool etc.
Precisely@bolded is the fukkin truth
Both are on different spectrums Elzhi follows the path of a traditional rapper/MC. Hes I guess you can say "pure" in the same way people call Chris Paul a Traditional/pure point guard.
Lupe is more "different"/unorthodox, hes does things differently in his own. So hes like Stephen Curry in this instance making his presence felt in a different way(while still having some traditional elements in there as well)
anyways my pick is Lupe
I'm more of a traditionalist then, but I don't agree that being more versatile makes Lupe's ceiling higherThey’re both monsters at their peak.

It's more than just lyrics, it's about about artistry, concepts, storytelling etcwho else spits like Elzhi![]()
Yes, though Elzhi is no slouch in that department either
Precisely
And just like Curry vs CP3, Curry has a higher ceiling
I’d go with Lupe at his best as well
Yeah Lupe has clunkers in his discog just like Curry had clunkers pre 2014 (and after as well)I'm more of a traditionalist then, but I don't agree that being more versatile makes Lupe's ceiling higher
New Orleans and LAC CP3 in his prime is better than Steph Curry pre 2015, but nobody could have predicted that Steph would have gone super saiyan the way he did, particularly the season after their first chip. Lupe analogously hasn't made that giant leap to like Steph did where he's definitively better, which is where I think your comparison breaks down.
Lupe's got some weak production and he's got enough duds in his catalog that cats have already admitted somehow that multiple albums of his miraculously "don't count"
Elzhi doesn't have any duds, certain projects are better than others, but when Lupe misses he REALLY misses
You point out the fact that Lupe's artistic vision was compromised by his label but at the same time he entered as a mainstream artist and that label push along with the Jay Z cosign are exactly why I'm guessing a high percentage of folks are going with Lupe, just because they know his material more.
