He's not a big fan of rapping about women.

Doesn't have the urge to fukk bytches.

When's the last time you seen Lupe with a woman ? Other than his mom.

He might be a undercover Queer or thinks he too smart to have a partner.

:yeshrug:
Literally every Lupe album has a song dedicated to women tho :dead:

Sometimes several :dead:

If it's anyone nikkas should be listening to it should be nikkas like Lupe. He's seen the streets and the business side, he was brought up under the OGs.

There's hardly any "OGs" in the streets of Chicago now... just these lil young nikkas moving wild and recklessly :skip:

Im not one of them "super underground/purist" types, but im definitely not one of them "i love *insert whatever's on the radio*" either. fukk nah.

But with Lupe is a few things. I agree with the delivery & voice. But then i just dont get his abstract references & all. Im just being honest. Its not an excuse but its just my truth. Wtf am i gonna do if i dont get it? Just fake enjoy it? Read RapGenius, which im sure alot of his fans over his lyrics too. He just doesnt paint pictures that well with everything being so abstract that you have to know what it is to know what he means.

Like he'll have a typical "im chillin" song right, next thing you know, his fans'll swear up & down that its really a metaphorical song for the cure to cancer or some shyt.

This is just me tho. Maybe im just not that intelligent to get him, idk. I really wanted to like Food & Liquor based on him being somebody that supposedly raps about something actually relevant & with skills. But i feel asleep, literally.

I am not a big fan of his but I don't think he is lacking in any way.

He can make deep songs, concepts, pop songs, etc.....

You know if he just played his position instead of being difficult, he would be bigger than he is now. He didn't want to sell himself out completely :yeshrug:

-Better Production, he has good production sometime and i really like his production on his 1st 2 albums
-Charisma and Mic Presence

This just shows that you are lacking in knowledge. I hate to use the term puzzle rap, but he has been doing that style since day one. That's one of the reasons he got a big fan following.

You whole post stinks of ignorance biased on your view of Testuo.

You didnt like it. Fine. Its was a very conceptual album and was clearly intended as a piece of art.
And fukk out here with the puzzle rap nonsense. I have already posted this in another thread but ill say it again.

Artists have always made songs that are hard to know the meaning of and that have been okay. But when a rapper does it, its "pseudo intellectual" or corny.
Take All along the watchtower lyrics. Lupe fiasco's lyrics makes a lot more sense, but Dylan is hailed as a great songwriter.

There must be some kind of way outta here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief

Business men, they drink my wine
Plowman dig my earth
None were level on the mind
Nobody up at his word
Hey, hey

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late, hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl

And even if Tetsuo was a very complex and conceptual album he did balance it with "straight forward" raps on Delivery, Chopper and to some degree prisoner 1&2.
The majority was "puzzle rap" but that doesn't tell us nothing what path hes on. Hes always been on this path and sometimes he will release songs that are hard to decipher and sometimes he will make songs that are "straight forward".
There has always been balance and Im certain its gonna be balance in the future also.

And lets not forget Tetsuo was a reaction to Atlantic forcing him to make music he didnt want, not trying to satisfy a small hard core fan group. This was his PURGE.

Dude, even the most hardcore Lupe hater would have a hard time writing this.

Lack great albums.... 2 classics is lacking great albums now?

Both critical acclaimed and fan loved.

Food & Liquor by Lupe Fiasco

The Cool by Lupe Fiasco

Lacking replay value.... He got hits from EVERY single one of his albums that still get play from tons of people. Check his Spotify top list. All albums represented. with 2.412,813 listeners every MONTH.

Lack in songwriting.... Too many examples to even begin addressing this stupid statement.

Again your lack of knowledge of Lupes music is showing. I shouldnt even reply when you make statements like that.
Not lacking in knowledge at all, just stated my opinion. I've heard all of Lupe's material.

Lol people have different opinions, you may think those albums are classic but many disagree.

You actually misunderstood quite a bit of what I said, I was speaking not just about lyrics but about MC'in, stylistic choices in terms of delivery and a lot more.

As you can see from the thread there's a lot of people who have heard Lupe's music who feel the same, this isn't a coincidence or people hating, it's because they genuinely feel the same in most cases, there's a reason the critique of Lupe is what it is and also there's a reason he's not in most people's top 10 lists and mostly would be on just hardcore Lupe fans, that's because in my and many other opinion he lacks something, you may feel he doesn't and that's perfectly fine but many do.

And it just seems you got emotional for no reason lol, it's just my opinion, you don't need to worry about it, can agree to disagree and keep it moving.

@The Ruler 09 you just got ether'd by @Jack Don the G :blessed:

Food & Liquor 2 wasn't overly complex tho

It just had a lot of garbage hooks & wack production :flabbynsick:
It's impossible to 'Ether' me for 1, secondly it's just different opinions, there's not really a need to be upset or insult people, you aren't going to be able to force your opinion of Lupe being the GOAT or even top 5 or 10 on anyone cause most people just don't think that despite him being a widely known artist who was on a major I believe.

At the end of the day you can have your opinion and that's perfectly fine but most people aren't going to agree, I've in the past broken down the reasons for my opinion and have demonstrated that I've actually listened to his music quite in depth. As you can see from this thread I'm not the only 1 who feels similar.

While i don't agree with your sentiments about Lupe lacking songwriting ability and great albums I'm not going to lie you hit the nail on the head by saying he has alienated the casual listeners by being to intricate with his lyricism.

No lie for all the shyt i give you about being a Krino stan you seem to be a decent poster
I don't hate Lupe or even dislike him, infact I like some of his songs and want him to do well and release good music. I would just like to hear some more of his work where I feel it's at his best and that would touch more people. I've also heard all of his work and am a fan of some of his music so any critique is an informed one, I'll be checking his next ish regardless cause I know he can be good.

He can try to be overly complex and it comes off as pretentious and try hard. He does what battle rappers get accused of doing and that's trying to be super nerdy metaphorical on songs rather than just making sure the lines connect with the audience. There's a balance. I think Ras Kass at his peak did it perfectly.

He's monotone too.

With that said, I like quite a bit of his music. He's also an attention seeking fukk boy as well. That doesn't help.

You've basically described El-P, :mjlol:
