I liked Aaliyah but come the hell on... After all is said and done Beyonce will go down as a legend.

Aaliyah on the other hand was never on that type of level. You would never see Aaliyah performance and be amazed.
She was just going to be a consistent artist who wouldnt go outside her lane and that's ok if it works and it did for her.

But B is an icon... Aaliyah was just another rnb singer.

Beyonce is superior to Aaliyah,vocally performance wise and from the neck down physically. However,if i was forced to go somewhere and only had a choice between one of their solo catalogs,i'd choose aaliyah.
I simply like her music better. Aaliyah's music sounds more from the heart and beyonce sounds like she's doing what she thinks will work. I like some beyoce songs,ME MYSELF AND I,PARTY. But i never been a big fan. Something just seems so souless about her music,just like her husband. Although i think jay makes better music than her.
As I looked at Beyonce's and Aaliyah's catalogs (singles in particular),
Aaliyah's songs had me like Ahh i that was my lil jam or i love that shyt. When l looked at beyonce's shyt i felt like I used to hate every time i heard that bullshyt on the radio. (not all but lots of them). AALIYAH'S shyt WAS MORE STREET,beyonce's shyt seemed more pop and the vocals,though they were flawlessly executed,just seemed so over the top too often. Like she's trying too hard to prove something.

And I specifically remember people being scared that Beyonce wasn't gonna have the same success as a solo artist as she did in DC. that shyt was a huge talking point in 2003. The fact that Columbia had a shytload of features on her solo debut reinforces what Im saying.

lets not act like destinys child was TLC or en vogue. they were basically the supremes where one member gets shine and the rest are stuck playing the back jack. matthew didnt have them playing team ball over there. destinys child was basically the beyonce show.

kelly & michelle didnt start to shine until the last album before beyonce dropped her solo joint. and thats prolly only because of all the negative feedback surrounding the way the group was handled and how all 452 of the members were stuck in the background(and all of them were dope. that group couldve been even better if treated like a group). do you not remember wendy williams coining the infamous "beyonce & the girls" phrase in the middle of her beyonce interview?

i dont remember any doubters concerning beyonce going solo. she was expected to go solo and be pushed to the moon for a good 3 years before her solo dropped. did they call in reinforcements? maybe. but they had high hopes for beyonce. they were trying to push her to icon status. so yea they did handle her a bit differently.

ashanti? hell yea, ashanti was up there with beyonce & alicia for a period of time. shes the example of a not-so-good singer that you still cant take much away from because shes a writer and actually made a big contribution to her success.

thats why people keep bringing up the fact that aalyiah didnt write. not because we're holding singers to hip-hop standards, but because aalyiah really didnt do anything period. she wasnt a good vocalist. she wasnt a good performer. she couldnt dance. what did she do? she was basically a packaged artist that just knew how to play her position and vibe to the track well. writing would be compensation for her shortcomings but she didnt even do that. thus, we shall continue to bring this up.
