next aaliyah and the drum patterns on one in a million changed all of music, period!
nobody has a record in this gen or all time that can fukk with that record.
it is the template to what rnb and pop rap at the height skillwise of this gen should be period.
every record in rnb after one in a million is is made off of its template.
every great pop rap record since one in a million and timbo.
this is where the problem lies.
youre trying to give credit to aalyiah for chit she didnt do. shorty didnt have anything to do with the beat. and she didnt exactly merk the track either.
the credit there goes to timbaland & missy(who was in on the beat as well).
monica had her fanbase. as did aaliyah and brandy. you cant say monica was the only voice of the young female back then.
the chicks dug all those artists, as well as others in that lane BUT monica held the throne. she was the most popular amongst young urban females, was the most talented, and was by far the one that represented the young chicks the best.
brandy was loved as well and she had the most success but alot of that is attributed to the fact that she had the biggest machine out of those acts and was the most bubble-gum/mainstream friendly.
aalyiah was always the 3rd horse in the race. and you could argue that she was closer to falling to 4th or 5th place than she was to moving up to 1st or 2nd.
ginuwine fell off after 100% ginuwine.
also timbo is an rnb producer.
as he was a part of the devante swing prison production camps with playa, missy, pharrell.
he just got to do rap because of his innovations in drum programming.
art barr
no he didnt. not at all. are we gonna act like dude didnt have an 8 year/4 album run as an elite male r&b singer? and his run wouldve been longer if he didnt have personal issues, timbaland was only around for the 1st half of that.
and that brings me back to my point. yea, jodeci is my dudes. ginuwine was under devante as well. i didnt know pharrell was in that mix tho.
but yea, the point i was making was that ginuwine didnt fall off when he stopped working with timbo. his appeal towards the 'rap crowd thats not really into r&b' dropped a bit because his hits were no longer the types of joints that somehow get thrown into the hip-hop category.
kinda similar to all the hits that monica is dropping now, but for some reason, half of this board thinks monica dissappeared.
Who gives a shyt if Beyonce is bigger than Aaliyah....bottom line is she made music black folks could fuk with, even nikkas could throw it in and not look like complete fakkits....Beyonce appeals to cacs at this point, she did what she had to do to lengthen her career, and did what she had the range to do and that's be a pop artist....Aaliyah didn't make music to appeal to white people so of course she wouldn't be as big,u can't hold that against her....rnb artist wuz rnb artist back then...that's like sayin Usher is better than Al Green cuz Usher had crossover power

.....and no I'm not comparin aaliyah to al green btw.
are we gonna act like beyonce doesnt still have legions of black fans?
are we gonna act like beyonce blew past aalyiah(while she was alive) by doing crossover music? destinys child went over the top off the strength of kandi's chickenhead anthems, among other reasons, like somebody said earlier. closest thing they had to crossover back then was that bootylicious song.
and aaliyah's singles are still better
Aaliyah - At Your Best (You Are Love) - YouTube
Aaliyah - Age Ain't Nothing But A Number - YouTube
Aaliyah - One In A Million - YouTube
Aaliyah - Hot Like Fire - YouTube
Aaliyah - If Your Girl Only Knew (Good Quality) - YouTube
Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody (Official HD Video) - YouTube
beyonce makes music with no lasting appeal whatsoever. This ain't even me being gassed but can you ever see a beyonce single having a chorus like the one in at your best
"at your best, you are love, yeah, you're a positive motivating force within my life life, should you ever feel the need to wonder why, let me knowww"
plus aaliyah aesthetically

, she was the only singer to singer to master the art of dressing like a super hoodrat and still come off classy, and people
still bite her style to this day. If you don't believe me, check tumblr and a good majority of rnb artists this past decade post her death
ALAS, these aalyiah/beyonce threads are never complete until somebody comes in here and tries to prove how deep aalyiah's music was by posting lines from "at your best", not knowing that the song is an ISLEY BROTHERS REMAKE.
and dog, pretty much all of the songs you listed are moreso a direct result of either r.kelly or timbaland/missy. i mean, lets not act as if aalyiah ever really went in and killed tracks.
and youre just making stuff up at this point with the wardrobe comment. aalyiah basically wore what was already in style amongst r&b singers. if you really look at it, she basically followed what TLC and others were doing, but mostly TLC. when TLC switched their look up on the second album, she switched her look up similar to them. kinda like r.kelly following behind aaron hall. just not as obvious. i see he taught her well.
shorty came in the game looking like the 5th member of xscape.
