Your comparing a group to a solo artist? In 97 when DC dropped, Aaliyah already had two multi-platinum albums. Beyonce does not have a better LP than "One in a Million".

Don't play dumb, you know good and well Destiny's Child was basically the female Jackson 5. Like dude said, it was "Beyonce and them other broads."
And Beyonce might not have an album better than One In A Million in your opinion, but it still doesnt mean DC hadnt already outsold all Aaliyah's albums and was more popular at the time of her death

Forget the thread

Did someone really just say Janet Jackson is forgettable on the mic? :dead:

You all are taking this clownish behavior too far :skip:
So all the sudden Janet is an amazing vocalist? She has classic tracks, but it's not like her singing is what made them so. Ain't nobody going to Janet concerts to hear her do acappella ballads

Not everybody breaks glass like Whitney and Mariah. Janet's voice fits her style and production. So yes based on her Tons of Classic songs and albums she is an amazing vocalist for her style. LOL @ "Ain't nobody going to Janet Concerts to hear her do acappella Ballads". Tell that to the millions of people who have gone to all of her tours. Janet's a Legend who career again heavily influenced both of the artist we are discussing in this thread.

I love Baby Gurl's music and don't care for Beyonce's.

Aaliyah had the right people behind here from R Kelly Tim, Missy, Static Major, etc so her music was much more appealing to me.

Beyonce has the better vocal range and stronger vocals BUT I like Aaliyah's voice and tone over her production much better than Beyonce.

Beyonce is the much better stage performer...she is one of the best.

The best thing about Aaliyah was she knew her limitations. She didn't write and produce when her talent didn't afford it...unlike a lot of R&B artists the past 10 or so years.

A lot these R&B hacks need to peep SOM "Limitations"

Aaliyah's ceiling was the "One In A Million" album and her lane was around that vibe. It's hard to say if she would have ever been more than that, which is still highly popular. Her album she released before she died showed maturity, but she was still Baby Girl. Her, Monica, and Brandy were apart of an era where they fit in with the sound and were the best females at it.

Beyonce practically transformed mainstream "R&B" by herself starting with Destiny's Child to what it is today. Where Brandy and Monica are right now, Aaliyah would be maybe be ahead of them, but not seeing Beyonce in terms of popularity. Remember, Brandy also had big popularity back then with a sitcom that ran for years and was in blockbuster movies also.

"One In A Million" is a better album than anything Beyonce has released (the album with "Diva" was pretty good though), but she may not have become the icon Beyonce has.

aaliyah was real sex appeal.

mixed with next level rnb revolution that changed the face of all music production wise.

beyounce is just a made up unconvincing sex appeal little girl.

with made up sex appeal who is the queen of ratchet content.

bills bills bills to upgrade me,.....

she was not on aaliyah's level, or plane.

she can get all the records to chase aaliyah's sex appeal or direction.

yet she does not have that come hither sex appeal that separated aaliyah from the rest.

aaliyah was detroit urban classically trained alpha hood matriarch.
she was the epitome of what the best most urban styled black girl in america was.

beyounce was just a black girl at country debutante pageants and showcases.

two completely different state of beings.

there is no comparison if you experienced their history.

no contest...
Aaliyah is a dime and had some great music

But beyonce is a far better artist. Vocally and catalogue wise

I agree about the vocalist thing, but Aaliyah released a masterpiece before she passed.... How long did it take Beyonce to do it????

Their music is so different though... Aaliyah's music was for the vibe and mood... Beyonce is hands down a vocalist and performer.

Could have been an argument like people have between Prince and MJ (I AM NOT SAYING THESE TWO ARTIST ARE ON THEIR LEVEL, I'M JUST SAYING IT"S ONE OF THOSE ARGUMENTS BETWEEN NIGHT & DAY)

No doubt, but her actual mic skills are "meh" at best. That's why the bulk of her shows is infact built around fast jams and dance routines. That's her strong point

vocally

But as much as Aaliyah changed r&b back then, she was never as globally popular as Beyonce is today. You could still group her in with Brandy and Monica.

Beyonce has as many #1 Billboard Albums as Aaliyah had albums.

shyt Mariah Carey was more popular than Aaliyah back then.

Beyonce today beats out Rihanna, Katy Perry, Gaga, Taylor Swift, etc. worldwide.

I'd have to agree with Art on this one...

I like Beyonce, no doubt....but Aaliyah's music is timeless...and the groove on the music was MUCH better. I really don't find myself listening to much Beyonce after one or two listens (when my girl buys the CD's she KILLS them) but I always got some Aaliyah in the morning commute rotation. She had that killer 90's vibe which we all love, and doesn't seem like it'll ever come back

a bit of RnB died when Aaliyah passed...look at it now...ratchet anthems from Keyshia Cole and the likes and raunchy ass Trey Songs...:sadcam::snoop::beli:

this may be the shortest most understandable thing your special autistic hands ever typed.

Music is music. The fact that one artist can write their own music and have success says alot as to why they are more talented than one that never did it at all. So let's give Beyonce yet another point on the scorecard for why she has more talent than Aaliyah. How much of what Aaliyah did was manufactured by other people?? Her songs, her style...give that credit to others if you wanna be real

I don't even like Beyonce's music outside a handful....You nikkas are just overly sentimental and nostalgic. Like Aaliyah meant that much to R&B and was Patti, Whitney or Chaka level or something :beli:

I'm pretty sure the poster that I quoted said that Beyonce was bigger than Aaliyah when she died...not Destiny's child. So now we comparing a group to a solo performer?

So I guess Kelly Rowland was bigger than Aaliyah then too, huh :stopitslime:

Once again, you nikkas KNOW Beyonce was the reason for their success. Stop it
