What status is Monica though? She's a flop with nothing to brag about. She won no awards, no strong album sales, no magazine covers, lol she didn't even get her own movie. Both Brandy and Aaliyah outsold her. Monica was always dead last in terms of sucess. nikkas need to stop talking reckless without looking up facts lmao

stick to talking about rap(or trying to talk about rap).

and btw, monica had her own movie. aalyiah didnt.

And yet it was certified gold 3 weeks faster than her previous album, 2 weeks before she died :heh:

how can you quote those exact words from me and still post this?:what:

i dont deal with such blatant idiocy. have a nice day.

-nobody said "The Boy Is Mine" was her first hit...but it damn sure was her biggest hit

-Aaliyah sold more out the gate off her self-titled debut than Brandy or Monica ever did

-After the Storm is actually Monica's fourth album, and was only conceived after the single for All Eyez On Me flopped. Even still, "one year and promotion and she couldn't go 2x platinum..." damn didn't you say that :whew:

all the rest of what you wrote :beli: Like I said...you'sa troll. You saying shyt that's not based on fact and arguing like it's true. You couldn't even be bothered to look up album sales but wanna talk about who was more popular or who was more successful. I'm not even gonna take you seriously breh

i dont think you understood what i meant by that 1 year of promotion line. then again, i wouldnt expect you to.

you were claiming that "the boy is mine" was her 1st smash hit, which is a dam joke.

also, you dont even understand the real significance of that collabo. if you did, you wouldnt be in here championing aalyiah over brandy & monica.

all youre doing is stanning. youre rehashing the same arguments that have been shot down already and posting fughazi sales figures. and its pointless because its not even all about sales jack@$$. not to mention, i just saw you neg rep someone over this and you couldnt say chit else to the bul. YOURE STANNING.

and lol @ even trying to talk sales with brandy as if she didnt come out the box with #1 records. as if her debut aint sell 6 mil.

theres a reason why aalyiah wasnt getting the types of looks that monica & brandy was. sit ya wierd @$$ down.

are you serious with this chit b? yousa clown.:scusthov:

Brandy didn't have a string of hits on this calibre until she dropped her second album which was led by a duet with Monica.

Brandy only ever outsold Aaliyah after The Boy Is Mine dropped as a single with Never Say Never.

But since you're arguing it so freely...Brandy's first Number 1 single is "The Boy Is Mine." The closest she had gotten to that before was when "Sittin Up In My Room" went to number 2 in the US Charts, and that wasn't what I'd call a "smash hit." But I don't really care much for this argument since I never said that so :manny:

I never did any such thing. I cleared up your careless statements that Brandy & Monica were always above Aaliyah when facts are, they were all in the same realm, with varying differences regarding sales & singles. I don't see how you can say with a straight face that Aaliyah wasn't on their level when her first album outsold their first ones, and Monica has never sold 3 million copies of an album in her career. You really tryna sit there and act like "I Wanna Be Down" and "Baby" was put on a higher pedestal than "At Your Best?" :manny:

I neg repped you too. As far as sales...you know that's difficult to get. Only thing we can do is link articles/wikipedia for the most part.

Like I said before, she didn't have #1 US record until The Boy Is Mine. If you wanna talk Number 1 on the US R&B charts then well...they all came out with #1 records there out the gate. Not really impressive.

theres a reason why aalyiah wasnt getting the types of looks that monica & brandy was. sit ya wierd @$$ down.

What looks did Monica & Brandy get that Aaliyah didn't get :comeon:

Oh, I forgot about the string of blockbuster roles they were offered before Aaliyah died. Yeah, Romeo Must Die wasn't some classic flick...but it did go number 2 in the US box office and grossed nearly 100 mill worldwide. Yeah, I see whatchu mean by that

:beli: great. so you clarified yourself. now i can see even clearer tha youre wrong.

"sittin up in my room" wasnt a smash hit now? not to mention the singles that came before that. i see that im talking to an idiot now. i might be about done after this post. ur wasting people's time with this bullchit.

i dont know where you get your numbers from saying aalyiah outsold their debuts. i really dont care tho. stick to number crunching or "number crunching" and i'll stick to the outside world.:skip:

i never said aalyiah wasnt on monica & brandy's level. i said she was always a step behind them in terms of popularity, status & hits. she was the 3rd wheel. only category i may have said that aalyiah isnt on their level in, is talent. and im sure even you would agree.

i dont care about movies. im talking r&b here. and for the record, "romeo must die" wasnt her movie. get real.

as for what looks they were getting, i already broke all that down like twice. this is why i dont like arguing with people like you. you just ignore chit and keep repeating yourself, even if youre out-of-pocket. all to defend people that could care less about your existence.

and for the record, i liked aalyiah more than brandy & post-destinys child beyonce. but i live in reality.

lol @ people in here now trying to settle for brandy being #1 and aalyiah/monica trading 2nd place. you people are lame. it was brandy & monica duking it out for 1st place with aalyiah being #3. respect it or check it. stop rewriting history in this muthasucka.

and this jmurder dude keeps bringing up "the boy is mine".

do you even understand the significance of that record? if you did, you wouldnt be saying that aalyiah was bigger than either of them.

monica & brandy were toggling for the princess crown and millions of people just automatically assumed that they had beef. one of the purposes of the song was to dead all that talk. and nobody was looking for aalyiah to be on that record. aalyiah's name was never even included in that. not even when she had that commercial for her 2nd album saying that she was 'the first.' you would think that people wouldve perceived that as a diss, and added her name to such discussions but they didnt.......also, may i add, if she was bigger than brandy and/or monica, her people wouldnt have even bothered to put out such a commercial because there would be no need for that chitty chit.

you do the math. even if youre not from the era, you should have enough common sense to put 2 and 2 together.

why wasnt aalyiah on the record if she was as big as you claim?

more like men arguing over music. i dont limit myself just because some others arent sure about their sexuality so they make up phantom guidelines concerning what music they should or shouldnt talk about/listen to, and in the meantime theyre steadily attending sausagefest shows.

don't get testy. we can discuss 80's r&b all day. wild homo. but Brandy and Monica don't matter.

Mary J, Badu, Faith briefly, Aaliyah, Christion, Chico DeBarge, D'angelo, Dave Hollister/Blackstreet, Carl Thomas, Total etc.

these are the singing acts that played into the mix.

All talking, and no facts.

ROmeo Must die WAS her movie, she was the leading lady, her face is on the damn movie cover, and she even helped the soundtrack go platinum. Where's Monica's theatrical movies? Brandy had Moesha, Monica had ______________?!!

And Aaliyah is on their level of talent. Aaliyah danced better than Monica AND Brandy, sung as good as Brandy, and acted better than Monica. Monica is the better singer though.

lol @ people in here now trying to settle for brandy being #1 and aalyiah/monica trading 2nd place. you people are lame. it was brandy & monica duking it out for 1st place with aalyiah being #3. respect it or check it. stop rewriting history in this muthasucka.

THey did the boy is mine because they were fighting about a boy in real life and had real life beef, it had nothing to do with sucess. They took that beef and used it as a marketing plan. :ohlawd:

How was Aaliyah 3rd? She sold more albums than Monica, won more awards than Monica, had more endorsments than Monica, had a modeling career, not to mention she had movie deals out the a$$hole. :ooh: All Monica did was sing, while Aaliyah AND Brandy had their feet wet in other buissness ventures. WHy? Because they were bigger stars and considered "triple threats" for a reason.

^^lol @ that :duck:.

and homie, this is all about singing. just because you have more outside ventures, doesnt mean youre a bigger star in your main field. is tone loc bigger than dr dre? lol. fuggouttahere. youre talking a bunch of bullchit at this point and im not the one for it.

and monica isnt very white-friendly. i dont know why you expect her to do as much side chit as them, whether she wanted to or not. lol. common sense.

Brandy and Monica don't matter to 90s R&B, but Christion do? Oh worrrrrd?

I like "Ful Of Smoke" and "Midnight X-ta-C" as much as the next man, but the only thing Christion proved is that Roc-a-Fella sucked at handling R&B acts. When speaking on '90s R&B, Christion would be like, the 89th name I'd mention, right after Groove Theory and right before Skindeep. :heh:
