Negative. Beyonce has writing, or co-writing credits to alot of her songs. She's also a MUCH, MUCH better singer than Aaliyah was, and for anyone to debate that is silly. She's also a MUCH, MUCH better performer than Aaliyah was. And as far as her song contents...do you realize that all of Aaliyah's classic material was written by someone else? Namely R.Kelly and Missy Elliot. Plus she benefited greatly by having one of the great producers of the late 90's (Timbaland) and easily the greatest R&B artists/producers of his generation (R.Kelly). Aaliyah sold well but Beyonce has sold more. And you can call Beyonce's music "generic" all you like, she still has made numerous memorable hits that will be played for generations to come. Whether you like the content to those songs, or not, is irrelevant. They're already considered classic or are gonna be considered classic. She has songs that has basically become female anthems. She has a lane and she's mastered it and has become an international icon in the process. And if we're gonna debate on ,the admittedly shallow topic, of looks I give Beyonce the nod there too. Pretty face, gorgeous voluptuous body. Aaliyah had a beautiful face but had the body of a pre-developed teenage girl.
AGAIN...I LOVE AALIYAH. I still have plenty of her songs in rotation daily. But It's now becoming to the point where I believe she has become the female version of Big L. A great talent that undeservedly gets placed amongst the ICONS because of their untimely deaths.
And it's been stated several times that Beyonce just changes a word or two and she's put down as a "songwriter" because of her status. It doesn't make her a songwriter, it just makes her a smart buisnesswoman and con artist. Being 1/6 writers on a song doesn't make you a songwriter. Until you post songs that Beyonce has written soley by herself, she doesn't get that point, from me.
Vocally, Aaliyah died young so she didn't have a chance to improve her voice like Beyonce did. I'm no fool, if we compare 2012 Beyonce to 2001 Aaliyah, Beyonce wins.. But back in the 90's, Beyonce's voice was nothing special. She was average at best. Even if I give Beyonce the vocal win, Aaliyah still trumped Beyonce in dancing and acting. So it's not like Beyonce just beat Aaliyah in every category.
and Thirdly, You say Aaliyah relied on her production team. Doesnt Beyonce do the same? The Dream, Sean Garrett, and even Ne-yo penned some of her biggest hits. Like I told Homeboy, I don't know why y'all try to use that "aaliyah relied on tim and missy" as a reason to discredit her. At the end of the day, Aaliyah used producers and songwriters just like Beyonce, Michael Jackson, and alot of other artists did and still do till this day. The only difference is, Aaliyah stayed with the same team of producers.
Beyonce came from a group (already had hype) and has overall been in the game longer than Aaliyah. I would hope she sold more.

Like I said, Beyonce's music is more marketed towards radio. Aaliyah's music was more different and wasn't aimed for pop radio like Beyonce. Beyonce= Generic Radio food. Aaliyah= Risk taking using innovative sounds. It don't take no genius to figure out who would have more radio hits.
In the r & b world, she is an icon. She's not a worldwide icon like Elvis or Michael Jackson, but in the r & b genre, she's a legend. She's the 10th most sucessful female r & b singer of all time, according to billboard.
&& I guess you forgot about Beyonce's's breast implants and ass pads.

Dont get me wrong, Beyonce's body is banging, but all it was is just surgery. Im sure if Aaliyah really wanted to, she could have had the same result.
