Estate wants to rightfully control his image/trademarks and his deal with the academy effectively ended when he died.

That’s the simple version.

Long version is that there’s no way of knowing what the original founders of the academy wanted to do with the Mamba name affiliation and the estate just wasn’t having it. There’s $ at stake here and why have Kobe’s name attached if he’s not here to somewhat steer the ship.

He did a lot for these cats by partnering with them and went the extra mile by showing up at the facility even tho he didn’t really have to. He could’ve just settled into the mascot role and call it a day. Maybe he should have
