I see superseded wages and people moving towards entrepreneurship. People would forget getting STEM altogether because too much, and getting paid too little in the age of automation.
Everyone can't and shouldn't be an entrepreneur. And even entrepreneurs need workers. A CEO, a doctor, a marketing exec are all workers.

Better off doing that than being the next Tony Stark and getting paid a mailman's salary. Doing all that, just to live average or even below average? Nah, people ain't gonna tolerate that.

Better off doing what? "Being an entrepreneur"? Most business owners are not rich, and are subject to many of the same forces as workers. If being an "entrepreneur" were easy... well, you would be one.

shyt, I can see people selling basic art and basic services online to make a living in the near future. That's not far fetched at this point. :ehh:

Most good artists today cannot make a living off their art. That's not going to be any better for "basic" artists.

What is the marketability of this? Are people really interested in buying food from glorified vending machines? They rolled out self-service automated grocery store lines like 25 years ago and it still hasn't "taken over" human cashiers, its just another option.

Theres a lot to consider before companies go fully automated. People complain about service all the time but despite that, less human interaction in service industries has a way of cheapening the perceived value of products. This might actually hurt the companies more than it saves them money...

Publix refuses to and they are basically the gold standard for super markets.

Thanks I didn't have any ready examples. I just remember seeing the computer kiosks when I was a kid and assuming that was gonna be the future...20+ years later its still 2 self serve lines and 10 human cashier lines.

Same reason call center jobs still exists. People HATE dealing with computers if they don't have to. People like being catered to and they will pay more for it...

Agree with you both. Human interaction is still preferred and profitable, especially in the food service industry. It comes down to the percieved quality of the product. McDonalds can roll out all the technology they want, they will still be trash to me, I'll stand in a quick line at Chick Fil A before I step into a automated McDonald's.

:ehh:Be blind to the big picture and blame Mcdonalds workers.

The barriers and costs to open a restaurant have skyrocketed in the last couple of years..These big fast food companies should be getting hammered by small mom and pop joints because wholesale food prices and production costs arent that different and their food and service sucks and with these kiosks its about to get even worse.

But the cost to open a restaurant is $275k...and 30-50% of that is Govt related, Enviromental,Health, food safety, construction permits.legal fees..you have to get through all 3 layers of govt ..file and get permits from at least 10 agencies

I helped a Friend with a restaurant project...the location was ALREADY zoned and inspected since it was previously a restaurant and STILL the various state, county and city inspection teams deemed the some equipment unsuitable for the 2016 regulations and hit her with a 30k environmental impact assessment so she had to spend an extra 75k just to get a permit ..yet the small local restaurants provide the kind of Jobs that cant be taken away by machines and better food and service.
Franchises like Mcdonalds know how to maneuver through regulatory minefields and in fact they push for it because they know it keeps their competition down.

This was going to happen anyway and it's also going to happen in the manufacturing sector too.
