Disagree, and I say this as a non-metal listening person (just notice my screen name), I say this as someone who grew up watching VH1 a ton...Thats the thing with rap though. It evolves and changes in ways quite dramatic and often quick so what was cutting edge can be all belt, no onion by next season.
Metal and many other genres don't really have that issue to contend with. That and Hip Hop, like Camron, doesn't respect its elders.
Think that may start to flip over the next few generations but a lot of the artform was built on innovation and whos got next so a short memory span is par for the course...
Metal/Rock has changed in so many dramatic ways that it has destroyed musician's careers.
From 70s power rock/stadium rock to new wave of british heavy metal, glam/bubble gum/Sunset Strip metal, thrash metal/speed metal, death metal, grunge, alternative, nu metal. Metal has about a thousand subgenres. The change from hair metal/thrash in the late 80s to grunge in the early 90s was so dramatic that it destroyed all those bands careers.
Crazy guitar players like Warren DeMartini and Vito Bratta went from having full blown careers in the 80s to working in laundromats in the 90s.

Stop cutting and pasting haterade from “true fans” stuck in the 80s. Anyone claiming Metallica hasn’t had a good album since Mustaine and Cliff and calling Kirk Hammett a trash guitarist IS A fukkING LIAR.
