So you think someone would spend $2-$5 million on it....then drop MP3s for free? The box and all that other shyt is window dressing, people are paying for the rarity of the music.

Fred.

I don't know, people by paintings for a lot of money, or original copies of certain things. I think RZA is trying to put the value back into the music, I can respect that.

I would like to hear the project too, but I'd feel a bit greedy/ungrateful if they just released an album a few months ago and I demand to hear an album they've been upfront what the concept would be from the jump and that will make them millions of $. I'm happy for them, I'm genuinely not mad, I can see why you would be, but I don't feel mad personally, I feel pleased for them, and am glad they are getting paid well for their talents.

Music takes such a long time to make, production, writing, organisation, studio time, mixing/mastering, we sometimes get that shyt VERY cheap considering how much goes into it. This readdressing the balance for a particular project I think is quite cool to be honest...

If it can't be sold, how do you expect to hear it? :dwillhuh:

I really don't understand the logistics you cats are using, to think we're ever going to hear this.

And they didn't give us anything. I paid for everything Wu related I own. You're acting like music is a charity, the fans made them millionaires and super stars. They are in a position to do some shyt like this because we put them there. And like I said, of course they can....but it's some sucker shyt.

Fred.
I remembered when this thing was first announced they said the public would be able to go museums and listen to it

I can't speak on anyone else, but I fully understand that....and it's still 100% bullshyt.

RZA is talking about he's fielding $2-$5 million bids for the album....and now whoever owns it can't sell it. They can only give it away.

I doubt I need to explain to you why someone that just blew $5 million on something wouldn't give it away for free.

Fred.
You might not agree with it but that was always the plan :manny:

You can save the explanation. They would and possibly will because there is still only 1 physical copy. Everyone gets to look upon priceless pieces of art in museums but we don't all get to own them and take them home. Does that mean that art has no value? This was the basis of the idea.

Y'all being real short sighted. An institution could buy it or a corporation like Samsung/apple to give out to free digitally etc. No end to the posobilities.

I hope this goofy ass album leaks tonight. Not because I want to hear it, but just to get this pretentious bullshyt over with.

I'm more tired of hearing about this album than Detox and Act II combined.

Get this all the way the fukk out of here. I might get negged into oblivion, but all of us know that it's not gonna be THAT good. Anyone that pays 7 figures for an album that we all know will be this average? Good for them I guess. I hope they enjoy it and bump it all day.

RZA has completely smoked himself retarded. I wonder what the rest of the Clan thinks about this.

:scusthov: What happened to this dude?

Man what the actual fukk is this shyt?

:skip:

That's some of the worst mix of literal sound waves I've ever heard. Someone's bodily functions while they have food poisoning would probably the the worst... but there's not much topping this. This might be gotta be top 5 worst sounds ever.

Pay 5 million bucks for an album full of RZA beats in 2015. It hurts real bad too. RZA just went off my top 5 list. He's still in the top 10, but he hasn't had a great beat since Linx II, and this right here? He's in outer space.

EDIT: Even though RZA didn't produce the album, I still think he's crazy for doing this.

This is actually a good post man. I respect what they say they're trying to do. I just can't get over the pretentiousness of it. We definitely get music cheap/free considering what goes into it, and I'm happy for anyone to come from nothing and become successful. I just think the execution of the idea is goofy. I know you have to "go big" to make a statement these days, but I think you can draw attention to the craft without having to come up with a bunch of numerology and pseudo-philosophical garbage that you're clearly pandering to your base with. Unless it's like I said, and he's just smoked himself retarded. In that case, it's just weird/sad.

The best way IMO to put value back into the music is to make good music. To make anything less than some of the best music ever and to sell it for that much, to one person? That's just insulting. The funny thing is I bet the album isn't even a top 5 hip-hop album if it dropped last year, this year, any year. Let alone a top 5 album of the year in any genre, period. And that's the kind of album that needs to be made to justify some wild shyt like what RZA's doing. You need to genuinely have a game changer, or just a bulletproof album, and we all know this ain't it.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib's Cocaine Pinata album I guarantee knocks this Wu album out of the park. I guarantee Cuban Linx II knocks this album out of the park. Supreme Clientele...and we don't even need to go into the '93-'97 run. shyt man. I'll even go super easy on RZA and say it only has to be a top 5 Wu release, ever. For this price tag? And to one person? it should be a top 5 Wu album. That's not an unreasonable expectation. But we all know that won't be the case either.

That wasn't the plan. The plan was to take it on a mini-tour so fans could hear it before it was auctioned off. Fans assumed, even if they missed the tour, they'd eventually hear it because whoever bought it would just mass produce and sell it.

The tour was cancelled, and this "88 years" shyt came out of nowhere within the last week. So no, this isn't the original plan.

And the whole "everyone gets to look upon priceless art in museums, but not own it and take it home" comparison is completely nonsensical....this isn't something visual, it's audio....the equivalent would be hearing the album, which we can't do. Fans were content with the mini-tour concept, just to hear the album. We went from that, to never being able to hear the album in our lifetime.

Lastly, I'm short sighted because I don't believe someone would spent millions of dollars for something.....then give it out for free? What world do you people live in? :dwillhuh:

This is just a side note, in general, but RZA didn't produce the new album, Cilvaringz did. And while he's kind of a clown, his beats are 100x closer to the original Wu sound than RZA has been in 10+ years.

How was it always the plan? I'm not being sarcastic. I've followed this and from what I understand, this is a pretty new plan. This 88 years shyt is definitely
brand new. People thought they'd either get to hear the album

A: On tour

B: Released digitally; either leaked, or by having to pay for it later.

Someone born tomorrow morning has a high chance of being dead before 88 years.

The art museum thing is crazy to me also. You look at art in an art museum. There's no way to hear this album without hearing it. the art is in how it sounds. No matter how fancy the packaging is. If they put the package in a museum, people would go, "Okay, but where the fukk is U-God's verse? I wanna hear it."

I do agree with you that art can have value, even if people don't get to own it or have it. This could very well be the best piece of art ever created, and presented in the most artistic way of all time. It's still an awful idea.

I must just be in a shytty mood tonight. I appreciate the links (no pun intended). Definitely closer to the early Wu sound.

Does anyone know anything about how the album sounds? Are they just chasing the 36 Chambers vibe on it? I'm guessing that's part of the selling point?

Don't shoot me but I'd honestly rather have Ghost or Rae in charge of picking production for the album.
