You gotta understand that certain "franchises" have an identity.

UM's identity is (for better or worse) an arrogance that feeds into their performance on the field.
Maybe talent feeds the arrogance. And maybe arrogance feeds the talent.

Who knows?
But I wouldn't dismiss its importance to Miami.
Breh we were arrogant because nobody could fukk with us. Swag is a byproduct of being good. You don't just manufacture that. Bama won 3 NCs in 4 years. Did you see their fans worrying about how much "swag" they had?

Maybe you're right.

But Miami was arrogant for basically something like 25 straight years. Like 1980 to 2004 or 2005.
And they weren't winning the chip every year.

Think Lane Kiffin would be a good fit. Can recruit and has some swag to him. I grew up a Cane fn and my pops is die hard. The program has a ton of problems but a coach that embraces the swag is a must. Doubt he administration will go that route though
Word..

fukk these hating ass dudes..fans of other squads on some

"Nope,NO...The U swag is finished...you guys are over, don't try to recreate it :troll: "

In that time span they played for 10 NCs. And even in years where they didn't play for a NC, they were still really really good.

Lane Kiffin has a horrible record as a HC. He was putting up 7-5 and 8-5 seasons at USC with teams that had a talent advantage 95% of the time.

What does "swag" mean when nobody is scared to play you? University of Miami culture needs to cut this idea out that we "need" a certain attitude - what we need is GOOD FOOTBALL: a good coach that knows how to run a program and simply win games again. Take care of winning, and the "swag" or whatever other shyt people want to see will come.

Snellenberger went 4-10 before coming to Miami. Pete Carrol was an NFL washout. Swag has plenty to do with it when you're selling an identity and a program. Swag is what Miami has to sell. Al Golden was a decent coach. There are plenty of decent coaches but you're talking about a program with only 2 real advantages: local talent and a history of being a bad boy, swag heavy program. That's what can set Miami apart from the other southeastern programs.

Thing is Miami has had plenty of talent and all the reason in the world to be good. Any coach that has built a program will tell you that before you can win big the players have to believe it and change their mindset. The swag thing is important at Miami because they, more than any CFB team ever, built their identity in being cocky, balls to the wall and tough. That doesn't just come back because you win a few games, you have to develop that mindset from the bottom up and it starts with the coach. Jimmy Johnson was a cocky b*stard that encouraged that from his players

You have it backwards. Jimmy Johnson was a great football coach that taught his teams how to play sound football. When teams like Oklahoma were running the wishbone down people's throats for years, Jimmy taught these kids how to play assignment defense and shut all that shyt down. Those coaches did not teach "swag", they taught sound football and were lucky enough to do it with kids that were exceptional athletes. That was a formula that worked for a long time.

It's not bottom up, it's top down, my friend. While Miami fans keep talking about swag and trying to rehash our 30 for 30's, other teams' coaches are busy focusing on playing football the right way. We've recruited so many kids over the last decade that suffered from this same ailment - thinking that having a certain attitude is gonna make them good, thinking that wearing that Miami helmet is gonna scare the other team. It's so backwards and even after 10 years of evidence and failure, we're still saying "it's all about the U". This is a football program, not the music industry.

I'm not advocating style over substance, I just believe that having an edge is absolutely necessary for Miami. Golden, Shannon and Coker were all decent coaches and buttoned down guys but they didn't have much fire or edge to them and it didn't work even with all that talent.

They were all bad coaches. Very bad coaches in fact.

Do you realize how bad you have to be at coaching when you lose to teams like Virginia in your last game in the OB 48-0? You're literally failing at every facet of your job at that point.

Real swag is winning 58 straight home games. For 9 seasons, any team coming the Orange Bowl already knew that was a L on their schedule.

Exactly.

People really think Michael Irvin and the Blades brothers developed swag and confidence after learning shyt at Miami??

Them mufukkas was a hundred trillion out the gate. And so was everyone else on those teams.
