The record labels want to phase the hood out. It used to be a lot of hood acts and artists selling units and having a radio presence, but you stopped seeing those type of artists selling units or getting pushed by the record companies, unless they had a sellout radio single targeting cacs. EPMD was going gold without all guns and dope music, just hood content, that stopped being able to happen in the early 2000's. The streets didn't pay enough attention to what was going on back then, and it's only gotten worse, with more weirdo rappers and outright cac hipsters.

Maybe the raw numbers look worse, but overall quality of life has improved with EBT and Section 8 putting people who would normally be in the projects into suburban neighborhoods, with money left over to buy your kids Jordans and drive a Charger.

Some people are still fukked, but they just don't know how to play the system.

That's what I said in the troy ave thread. Black as a whole are doing better and a lot of them are waking up to the fact the street life is a dead end. Rap will go the way of rock with hundreds of genres and sub categories. The only problem with street rap is that hood nikkas don't buy music and that could put record Companies off from signing street artists. Imo the streets are becoming less and less cool among people. In the nineties street nikkas were seen as rebels, now a lot of people view drug dealers and thugs as clowns. Even black people.

About time, if you ask me. . When I was growing up, the street dudes were worshipped and everyone threw the on for them anytime they fukked up by doing dirt, going to jail, and dedicating tracks to them. Now these same dudes are @ and even the broads love the "weirdo" type of nikka now.
