Hamline University has terminated professor Erika Lopez Prater's contract after she showed a class devotional Islamic art depicting Muhammad.

I don’t know if this is common or not, but in an Islamic studies/art history course a teacher faced backlash for using paintings that depicted Muhammad and eventually got fired.

Is it rare to even show this type of thing/if it already exists in the art world for hundreds of years by established artists who can be found online anyways



It’s not like she CREATED the images or criticized Islam

I just assumed in academic institutions had freedom to teach on subjects like history and art without censorship

Or maybe it’s a reflection of today’s hypersensitive/cancel culture.

After reading the article I’m actually more surprised she didn’t have anything worse happen considering some called it “idolatry”

Nonetheless, i don’t think I’ve ever seen 7th century Arab/Muslim art so this is pretty interesting from a historical point of view and a religious one.

But should she have been fired for just trying to teach history accurately and objectively?

Some other student could complain that she wasn’t doing a good job for withholding relevant historical info and images and knowledge on a the subject in a paid course that otherwise would be shown say if it was a class on Christianity for example

People could protest both sides

For example, I took a class on Christianity in college and the teacher was Gay.... I didn’t care. He even showed us “life of Brian” one day and had the class laughing along with it

No protests but it was kinda a stupid thing to do but now I know the movie exists

That shouldve been reason enough not to do it. In this fakkit ass world where anything we do is offensive to gays, trannies, women no matter how far the reach, we are expected to abide by it. Less we suffer some form of ostracism. In that world, one im certain she's a part of, its hypocritical and disingenuous for her to knowingly offend a group of people and think she wont have any fall out. I couldnt care less about muslims, cac professors or any of it. Im just annoyed by the hypocrisy of it all.
