It's more of the same as the last one.

Mission impossible lately is kinda like fast and furious franchise

You get what you expect going in. They follow the same format

You’ll always get a “tom cruise running full speed like Usain Bolt scene :banderas:

And it’ll start with a “mask off” scene :ehh:

This movie was missing a good car chase sequence however :francis:

It’s a fun movie and gives you everything you want in a popcorn flick. But it was the worst written MI movie, imo.
Yea that whole AI entity plot was clearly a rip off Ghost and shell and they made it overly confusing.

I still don’t know why the “KEY” was so integral to the story other than looking like a Cross :youngsabo:

The religious undertones to the story was kinda forced as well

Especially given the star's "religion"

good film but it dragged a bit. been feeling the last few bond films more than MI.

for a film largely about the dangers of technology it felt like this showed how old the franchise is getting when the biggest tech is still that mask box. i know its rooted in reality but this used to feel cutting edge. now its like eh, cool. unless it gets a refresh with the new cast, its probably best this ends here.
agreed here

with how omnipresent & prevalent AI is becoming in everyday life, the "entity" felt a bit outdated, even if the core concepts of its capabilities are something that could be a real concern as AI continues to evolve. (check this out if you want to see parallels to the "entity": https://ai-2027.com/)

I did however think the submarine scene was absolutely magnificent -- it almost had 2001 type horror vibes to it at times. The music and lack of dialogue really helped drive that scene, it was really amazing I felt (even if it ended up with Cruise floating to the surface in the fetal position lmao)

movie dragged a bit, but if its the last one, I can excuse that. Ive never loved Gabriel, hes so bland to me, it could be the actor not selling the role too. Tony Dalton >> Esai Morales as far as villans -- I always wish his characters were more Lalo than Del.

overall it was fun, the big set pieces were great. that sub scene was an all timer for me I think, would love to learn more about the filming of it, I thought it was the standout part of the movie

One of the weaker MI that I can remember.

Agree with many of the points made the film being dragged by exposition and a bland villain. Really felt the weight of those 2+ hours and not in a good way.

AI threat never felt as big as they wanted it too. They talked about how the AI was basically distorting reality i.e stoking divisions worldwide via misinformation. But they never showed much of that or its consequences.

Felt like a mid tier Star Wars film :heh:

I felt like I wasted hours on a Top Gun B-level plot
I had the same thought that it was like SW. Like one of the prequels where they'd keep cutting to people talking about the exact same shyt that goes on forever.

As almost everyone has said, the first hour can go. Its surprising that it made it to theaters without some execs or the filmmakers picking up on that very obvious fact. The story is ridiculous but that wouldn't matter much if the pacing / length was better.

I was satisfied overall because the submarine and plane chase scenes are really fantastic. I only saw a few of these films but I want to see the others now if this is one of the weaker ones.
