almost everyone looks brazilian, no matter your shade.

OP breh is right.

they do stare at black people splashing cash.
And crazy thing is like besides the Hermes store, the rest of the "luxury" stores are the damn Havianna shop, the cologne store and Flamengo themed shyt etc in that area. I'm like my nikka, at least in NYC they side eye me a little in Dior. nikkas looking at me crazy in Rehata's acai shop :stopitslime:

The food isn't my favorite I won't cap, but the energy and vibes were unmatched. Live music everywhere, people kissing and working out and shyt beautiful people, friendly if they weren't staring, partying till late night. We went to Sugar Loaf Mountain and they had a dj. Went to some samba event and it was lit. This is probably one of the few times being a stereotype worked for me because I felt no danger despite being warned 40 times while there. Should I have gone there engaged? maybe not in hindsight still would go back to Salvador Bahia or Sao P. Interesting to note, all or most black women had natural hair and fro's and my fiancee thought they were cosplaying black americans on some FBA shyt because the black brazillians kept line dancing and doing specific dances to american songs that don't require those type of dances. I had to remind her they most likely don't even understand the lyrics and only hear the beat.

Sao Paolo was cool also but got no desire to go back. It doesn't have that Rio vibe.

Sugarloaf Mountain is dope

Went to Rio 2 years ago and loved it. The most beautiful beaches I've ever been to.

Some of the finest women I've ever seen.

Didn't get any stares. We look Brazilian.

I loved that cheese bread. I learned how to bake it myself.

Tryna go back in January.
Yea I would still go back, I concur on the beach and the women. The stares I for sure felt it though and my fiancee who thought I was exaggerating, even mentioned at one of the premier restaurants (Yayá Comidaria Pop Brasileira) which we were hyped about because it was supposed to be black owned, (which was mid) that 3 white brazillian girls kept looking at her in her outfit and when we would turn to look at them they looked away.

As far as the food, l realized in Latin America only Mexicans and maybe Peru and Cuba do spice and in my opinon complex flavors. We got fries and mashed potatoes and for the potatoes there was no butter and fries no salt. That fish dish- Moqueca? ass. Coxinha (the chicken ball shyt-6.5/10) the little snack shyt they sell on the beach in that bag? like a dryer cheese doodle (3/10) the acai, steak and some other stuff was fire though but we had like 2 coconut rice's that were terrible and tasted like they just grated the shell of the coconut.

I'm a harsh food critic but I'm fair and honest. My family is from Grenada and St.Luica and both islands don't have good food in my opinion, but I have some family in Trinidad and Guyana (Great food) I live in NY and been to Toronto like 5 times, when to school in the A, so I know and recognize the good shyt.

I'm trying to go back too but now i know how to move and def will learn the language more.

Since I was 16 ive been wanted to go to Brazil.. shyt the first Portuguese word I learned was "Bunda" lol.
Now that shyt looking Rocky like Sylvester Stalone, a new challenger has arrived. Surprised about the food though. I like the brazil steakhouse around me (Fogo,Charboil Brazilian, Texas De Brazil). Im a harsh food critic too, since I personally cook high quality meals on the daily.
Was in Walmart a few months ago and those people who be in there trying to get you to donate and feed the world, stopped me. He saw my last name and automatically thought I was Brazilian. Started showing pictures of in the club, the hot spots and everything. Didn't even end up donated, dude legit thought I was Brazilian

These are just the signs to go and live the dream

Rio is ass, if you want good Brazilian food you need to go to where the afro-brazil spots are and that is in places like Bahia

Moqueca >>>

I see you tried moqueca, did they use palm oil at least (I head they cook it kinda different in some place)? Rio isnt the place I would go to for food being honest. try Salvador next time

I forgot the name of the restaurant, they actually were mad nice to us so I felt bad, but nah do palm oil on the moqueca. I def plan to go to Bahia, I heard that's even more hood then Rio. My friend studied abroad there and took the bus with her roomate, and a yn favela grabbed the friend phone and they had to punch him.

My girl's friend met us in Rio form Salvador and got into a fistfight with the uber driver. ( She won't tell us what happened but apparently the cops and army got involved.)

Another note. We were scheduled to do a Favela tour, but this happened the day before Rio De Janeiro: Tourists stranded on hilltop after police raid on favela

Pedro De Sal, lit ended at like 6am. Def keep your head on a swival, we went up into some corner I went down to take a piss and saw 7 yn's no shirts tatted up with gold chains and blond hair and 4 of them sniffing coke like it was chewing gum

Great write up breh @RealCrownHeights

Did you stay in an Airbnb?

What did you think about the cost of life (food, drinks, getting around)?

Was it smooth to go from the airport to the city?

And did you always feel safe late at night (despite coke sniffing YNs)?

Rio is in the top 3 for the next trip. I luckily speak Portuguese

do y'all brehs ever travel to expand your cultural capital? not specifically directed at you op but just seems like when brehs travel, especially to traditional "black" destinations, it's for p*ssy, beaches, entertainment, and maybe food. seems like a trip like this, especially with your girl, could've be an opportunity for cultural immersion - becoming versed around afro-brazilians and their fight for civil rights and societal contributions (not just typical favela tours), doing a latin jazz tour, taking samba and capoeira lessons, day tripping or hiking the amazon and learning about the local biome, learning about conservation efforts, volunteering with a conservation org, taking part in a umbanda or candomblé ceremony or supporting an afro-brazilian artist in residence at a gallery or studio. all this would just be surface level shyt not anything really niche. like if you were a coffee aficionado and wanted to visit a brazilian coffee farm to see the production process first hand. this is how cultural capital is built brehs and is a currency that increases your social position. imagine later in life running into a non-assuming brazilian breh at the airport and it turns out he's the son of the president. y'all get to chopping it up for a lil bit and he ask you if you've been to brazil and your eyes light up and say you have but all you have to show for it is ass and beaches. when, if you would've taken more of an interest in the places you travel, you could've gotten your jared kushner on and parlayed that encounter into a deeper relationship or possible business opportunity.
