Sometimes i wonder if Mobb Deep realizes they have been putting out sub par albums since MM.

At least Nas gave us some decent albums since the 90's.

Mobb Deep should be ashamed of this.
The last Mobb album was actually pretty good.

I think it finally dawned on them with the Blood Money album and thats why they took a hiatus.

As a group, the best thing they put out after MM was that Free Agents mixtape in 03....and it still is :ld:

I agree 100% Free Agents in 03 is their best work in the last 12 years.

All their albums since MM have about 4 or 5 songs i like.
The last Mobb Deep album is strange in a way. It's not much on paper. Very well produced. P didn't really bring it. Yet it had such high replay value. It was definitely top 5 of 2014 for me :yeshrug:

For Hip Hop Mobb Deep is still good but that's only because music has become so weak.

But for Mobb Deep the last 12 years or so has been a major disappointment.

Same could be said about most other rappers from the 90's tho.

I agree. It was in my top 10 for sure. Maybe higher. Definitely not great on paper but arguably their best overall album in a long long time.

Of course. They haven't made an album even remotely close to The Infamous, Hell on Earth or even Murda Muzik since Murda Muzik. I used to judge their music on that scale...same with Nas. But not anymore, I just appreciate what they give us if there is something to be appreciated.

They still good i just take my favorite songs of the Prodigy & Havoc solo's and add them with their best songs off their weaker albums and make a 80 minute cd i can listen to in the car.

For years i kept thinking maybe Apostles Warning Prodigy might come back.

But i kept finding myself disapointed.

I would ask myself "does Prodigy understand how slow and lazy he sounds how could he put this bullshyt out"

Yep. I mean also, I don;'t want to say Mobb is a "nostalgia act" but to a lot of people they are. With their subject matter, it's unheard of for anyone to have fresh content 2+ decades into music. When they were young, and shyt was crazy in their life (especially they said during the HOE period) there's just an authenticity that can't be replicated the same when you're older and more comfortable.

They do a good job all things considered, but it's important like you said to adjust expectations. I don't ever expect HOE/ or even MM era Mobb to fully return, so I'm not let down when I hear their albums.

Also, when you listen to Prodigy, it helps if you know that he switched his style to the slower thugged out spoken word style on purpose. It's not like he tried to rhyme like he used to, but couldn't. For whatever reason, he decided to switch it up. It definitely was a fall off. But on AE he sounded closest to MM/HNIC era P since then. Same for the Mobb joint Biology.

Lot more energy on those songs.

Right? yeah man, for whatever reason, he made a choice to start rhyming that way. I don''t really understand it either. I can't think of another rapper that has so blatantly changed the entire way they rap. Doesn't sound like the same person at all, not even the voice really.

:ohhh:
That's got me thinking about the physical component behind a rapper no longer being able to perform at the same level. I can understand losing the ability to write the crazy imaginative shyt he used to write - but losing the ability to deliver vocally, the way you used to be able to? :ohhh:
It would be interesting to hear him try to re-record Hell On Earth verses...
What did you think of how he sounded on IMDKV?

When did he say that? Was it in the book?

Well he needs to explain to the fans why he threw away ten years of his career doing this bullshyt.

I use to make excuses for him like "it's his sickle cell and drug problems making him sound lazy"
