i kinda wanna shed a few tears... f*ckin havoc and alchemist did it brehs, they actually put out a project that's worth listening for years to come. I've said this sh when it comes to older rappers dropping projects this far in their career, STICK TO THE PRODUCER and SOUND that your fans fell in love with from the rip, that's the only thing that's been my problem with Rae and Ghost, deviating from having RZA produce on any of their latest projects. It's the reason why Clipse we're successful with their latest drop. STICK WITH YA DAY 1 PRODUCER THAT GOT YOU THERE!
Juvenile and Mannie Fresh did this also for their new album dropping

It’s also probably been noted in another thread at some point but we’re really getting back to the era of one producer per album which is significantly improving the quality of the product, due to the cohesiveness and clarity of the vision. I know this is two producers but Havoc and Alchemist are very locked in with each other as to what the Mobb Deep sound is.

It’s been a thing with the underground rappers for a while (Spitta, Larry, etc have been doing that for a minute) but it’s good to see the legends taking it back to that essence as well. Off top, Clipse, Mobb, Freddie Gibbs, Larry June (x2), Roc Marci, WTK have dropped some of the better projects this year using this formula - shyt even last year the Metro and Future projects were up there as some of the best of 2024 and Curren$y and Fresh dropped a near classic with the Tonite Show sequel. I think Nas and Premo got a classic in the tuck which is why they’re last in the rollout - that first single was underwhelming but I think they’re gonna come back strong based on the feedback which is why they’ve taken so long.
i always find it intriguing that illmatic was what broke this formula only for Nas to go back to one producer formula decades later and have one of his best runs. Yes Prodigy was doing that and Curren$y with ALC among others, Madlib was also doing this before ALC (one producer albums, MADVILLAIN) Preem was doing this before ALC but it seemed to be an underground trend as far as east coast rap. not to discredit other regions but in the West and South it kind of always was a thing. Atlanta projects have been helmed by one producer. In the east coast the scene became obsessed with something that started on illmatic. Rappers wanted to get the best beasts from a variety of producers. But what they couldn't match was the chemistry all the individuals producers on illmatic had. The good of it was we got a variety of sounds on albums and styles for songs. the bad for a long time albums were not coherent or cohesive. I'm happy to see a return to one guiding vision behind the boards. It makes for the best projects over the best singles or songs as is the focus of multiple producer albums.

Comes down to a better time in music for those who enjoy albums top to bottom.

Spitta basically made it cool to do again tbh. He had Monsta Beatz for TANM. Then got Ski for the Pilot Talk series. Then really set it off with Alchemist for Covert Coup.

For the legends, most possibly….Curren$y been running the that play since he linked up with ALC in 2011.

Funnily enough, Prodigy had a couple of those in like 07,08 with Return of the Mac with Al and Product of the 80s with Sid Roams (although Jake One picked up a couple of tracks on the production)….
If I’m not mistaken, P and Alchemist started the trend in 07 with ROTM like you said. Unless there is something I’m forgetting.
