Its not a healthy model for the leavue and they should have transitioned away from that model after jordan retired, but atern was stuck in his old ways.

You want to build the nba you need to transition to the team and league model of the nfl, its a more proven and successful track record.

Players make the legacy in every sport they are the ones that perform.

That said the league decides hiw it promotes and the best way to expand its popularity and reach the mlb and nfl have ahown that longevity wise this is done via promotion of the leavue and teams over promotion of a single player.

The mj strategy worked and should be looked at as a onetime thing not something to continue forever, imo

Only thing is college basketball only gets eyes and ratings during March Madness. People that say they prefer college over the NBA is just talk cause the numbers & ratings say hardly anyone watches its regular season theses days

Right now though I'm pretty sure college basketball has a higher peak in terms of views when it's important aka March Madness. College basketball also has brackets which means that the casual folks will be watching/paying attention similar to fantasy football.

The NBA playoff ratings have been slipping for a while and they keep coming up with a ton of reasons why, but only do goofy shyt to try to fix it. All they have is talking heads and ESPN stats to try to make it interesting or "choke" talk when someone doesn't win a championship acting there's only one winner every year. The discourse with the entire sport is fukked up. I'm a Warriors fan and I barely talk about it here because if Steph has a bad game he's trash. If Bron don't win a championship at the end of the year he's trash. If KD doesn't then same thing. No one in their right mind would call Joe Burrow trash because he doesn't win the Super Bowl or Herbert trash because he ain't make the playoffs or Allen trash because he ain't beat the Chiefs.

They'll never admit it, but Stern ruined the initial excitement of the playoffs by switching to best of 7 instead of best of 5 in the first round. March Madness works because there's the occasional upset and best of 7 almost removes that possibility.

They'll never do one game elimination, but if it's best of 3 I bet their ratings jump immediately.

That's just how the NBA markets itself which isn't good most of the times. Just like how extremely small market Green Bay is never trashed because of its size -honestly I don't think Goodell league allows it- as its hailed on the networks as "The Frozen Tundra" "The House That Lombari Built" and "We can't wait to get to Green Bay to work the game", etc... while the very next program -maybe first take- will lead off the show with SAS crying and bytching if he has to do a game in Milwaukee or Cleveland

They can't make every 82 game important as a 17 game NFL season but they could clean up a lot of the other bullshyt that hurts the product
