From a quick google it seems like the Lakers-Warriors play in game was 5.6 million and the average for playoffs that year was 3.23 million. That could be skewed because it's LA and the Bay Area, and also Bron and Steph, so we won't know if that's really true until this year.

......but my other theory about the NBA's championship or nothing discourse has ruined everyone caring about the regular season and anything before the conference finals. The NFL has help with gambling and fantasy football to keep the casual/day to day folks paying attention, but the NBA don't have that and all of the media partners only push the major cities, major stars, and if a star doesn't have a championship they push a narrative he needs to leave to get one.
