The NBA made the game too much about the individual and not enough about the TEAMS... that's part of the problem. LeBron been on the Cavs/Heat/Cavs/LA all in the span of a decade.

How do you create and sustain rivalries when the players are all moving around every year or unhappy every year?

Yes there's a lot of free agent movement in football but the Pats was always gonna be Brady/Beli until the tail end. The Colts was always gonna be Peyton's show until the very end..

Green Bay always been Rodgers and Adams been there forever too. etc.

Two small market teams too :leon:

MLB equivalent of this matchup ratings would be:huhldup: MLB has a hard time getting causals to care about small market teams and its lacking star power big time.

I will give the NBA credit as they can get small market teams poppin with the right players (OKC from a decade ago is a prime example of this)

Only thing is college basketball only gets eyes and ratings during March Madness. People that say they prefer college over the NBA is just talk cause the numbers & ratings say hardly anyone watches its regular season theses days

Top college basketball games got better ratings than any NBA game last year. :yeshrug:

Rivalries are overrated. You think people tuned in because of a Bills Chiefs rivalry? Folks want to see the best go at it. After what the Bills did to the Pats folks wanted to see what they do against the current kings of the AFC, the Chiefs.

That’s in addition to the NFL being one and done event TV to begin with, something a series based sport can’t compete with. NBA series don’t have any weight to them till game 3.

Lastly, it helps when the playoffs are on regular tv as opposed to cable like the NBA.

That's the same thing... The rivalry started last year and carried into this year. Lot of people sayin Allen got Mahomes spot etc..

Now they will play again and nobody has to worry about them leaving the teams they are on.

The majority of the people who tuned into that game had no idea the Bills were in the AFC title game last year. Casuals drive numbers, not the hardcore fan. The fact that all the games were good before it drove even more people to pay attention to the last game of the weekend.

Yes, NFL team rivalries make a difference. And, yes, a top tier QB battle will be along those game lines.

You can't market basketball like football when an NBA player just has more of an impact on a game's outcome

The sad thing is the NBA has the potential to be much closer to the NFL in ratings but this is by far the worst product in decades.

Superstars hopping from team to team and teaming up with other superstars.

Overall gameplay is trash and bland. Far too many 3 pointers. Which has also led to overall imbalance with more frequent blowouts
Every team plays pretty much the same. Every NBA superstar plays pretty the same .

Either the LeBron style - drive to the basket and kick it out for open shooters camping at the wing.

Steph style - dribble, dribble launch a 3. You'll be hard pressed to find 10 stars that don't fall into either category.

Terrible, non existent defending. 90% of the games don't matter. Who gives a fukk about the regular season games these days. I used to and I don't anymore and Im a die hard. NBA just sucks compared to even 10 years ago.

Id the nba disnt render the regular aeason worthless by eliminating division championships mattering to seeding.

If they didnt expand the first round to keep upsets from happening.

If they didnt market the game around superstar players but kept it focused on teams. The nba would be in a etter place, bit its dying.
