4th grade though? :what:

that's the mouse and the motorcycle :dwillhuh:

there's no way they're catching up in college.

at that point, it's probably just best to let them graduate and :eat: off having a degree.

this statistics aren't believable to me.

EDIT: she said football players and basketballs in the video. I guess they made the title athletes to be more PC

Exactly. This just isn't true for the big picture. You're telling me swimmers, softball players, the tennis team, etc... can't read, or is it just the top 1/10 of 1% of elite athletes?

Wack article.

Aren't you being a little incredulous here? We are talking about athletes not your average everyday student.
they aren't doing much better either

The Sweet Science
Man, I went to highschool with cats who couldn't read and the only J's they was hitting sure as hell wasn't on the basketball court.

My freshman year I had nikkas 20 plus years old in my class! I knew several dudes who actually graduated and still couldn't read!
That shyt is mindblowin

TYRONE GA!
If your public school failed at giving you a good foundation there is no way you can magically keep up at the college level, let alone an elite college level.

That's like not learning basic math but then being expected to do well at calculus.

the minute some of these schools realize you are very good to great at sports, you will get pushed along even if you dumb as a chair leg. Parents don't care because they believe everyone cysing their kids as their ticket to big bucks.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
They're not "student-athletes (for the most part)." They're semi-pros that need to be compensated for their skill and labor. Look, nobody gives a fukk about these dudes getting a legitimate education, PARTICULARLY these institutions. I'll give you an example, as some of y'all know I go to FSU, and I bleed garnet and gold. I have for a long ass time -- since childhood. But, I call a spade a spade. Dalvin Cook is a superstar, 5 star recruit at running back and an early entrant into FSU. The spring semester started on the 6th. Guess when he showed up? Today. :stopitslime:. The fukk kinda classes is this dude taking this semester? Everything is full, but that won't matter. Besides that, he's missed a week of class already. They'll put him in some classes like "Keys to Student's Success" and shyt like that, and by the end of the semester he'll have learned nothing.

The schools themselves set the expectation that education isn't important. Why are we surprised when athletes follow suit? The most duplicitous and nefarious thing about all this is that subsequently these same schools harp on them giving athletes a "free" education. :stopitslime:

the decision to go along and not learn is ultimately yours. :yeshrug:
I don't know about all of that. It's easy to say that with the perspective of adulthood, but can you really blame a teenager in these situations?

If a kid stops learning in the fourth grade, but yet keeps getting pushed through school, I'm not sure you can really blame the kid for that, even as he hits adulthood. Ultimately it's your PROBLEM, but I'm not sure if it is necessarily your FAULT in that situation.

And at the end of the day; it's the parents fault

If you are willing to mortgage your child's education for a chance at a millionaire bball career, then, you have to expect this

Don't blame this on the big bad boogie man corporations

These parents are willingly involved in this and the schools are profiting

I blame the parents, but, the NCAA is foul, too
The blame wasn't wholly placed on the "corporations" but also on the school system. We can blame the parents but what do you expect out of parents that are also under educated (in most cases) and also victims of the SAME school system. Their children's sports future is basically their lottery ticket.
