Play In tournament best thing to happen to regular season basketball in years. Now only top 6 teams in a conference are guaranteed a spot. This makes the regular season important for everyone. Teams 1-4 who are fighting for home court advantage, 5-8 are trying to avoid the play in, and 9-12 are trying to get in the play in for a chance to make the playoffs.
Now there really are only a handful of teams tanking because more teams are in play.
This is a change I can rock with. It really rewards the top teams in a conference.

I don't see the point in having teams fighting for the chance to get beaten by the 1/2 seed anyway
The point is giving more teams something to fight for, so that there is less reason for a team to give up on the season. The more teams that are in the mix, the less likely a team is to tank.

Heck, until 1984 the #1 and #2 seeds in each conference got automatically placed into the 2nd round and the #3-#6 seeds all played best-of-3 in the first round. People complaining but the 7/8 seed team only needs to one game to keep their spot . They both get two chances to get in
They just want to complain . I have no idea why suddenly it’s a terrible stupid idea as if the playoffs haven’t been changed several times . They trying too hard and a majority of the posters doesn’t even understand how it works and they are upset mistakenly
What’s so egregious about the playin games ? All the 7/8 have to do is win a game a piece to stay in the playoffs . It’s not different than having to win the last game of the season pretty much

And all the 9th and 10th seed had to do was win more games than 7/8 the seed in the 82 games they were given.
Why are they getting rewarded?
The teams could act like those first 10-15 games of the season mean something, and use that to close the gap. Games 1-82 matter, so they need to stop thinking along the lines "meaningless game" and use it to establish themselves. If you don't make it, that's it...end of story.
The only thing I'd rather see is 1st round back to best of 5. Of course I know that will never happen again, but that's what they need if they want an occasional upset or some tension in Rd1.

The play in game is made to stop those 9-11 teams from full on tanking. So instead of damn near ten teams tanking for the draft you got at best maybe five now. Orlando, Detroit, Rockets, Wolves, OKC. Maybe Cavs too. Everybody still fighting to be in the playoffs.
