Heat considered big market in the NBA 100% ... Nash wasnt Nash yet when he went to PHX ... Spurs are a special case, obviously

Magic getting Hill & Tmac though :leon: ... yet still, FL is a desired destination

I don't think they are. I remember back during the 2013 playoffs when the Heat, Pacers, Grizzlies & Spurs were the last four teams left, David Stern was on ESPN and he was talking about how they were all small markets.

They're a desirable location for players but they're not considered a big market technically speaking

Alot of people have this perception that big names go to different teams through FA when it in fact isnt the case ...

Chciago has signed nobody? Ben Wallace, Boozer, Pau are bigger FA signings than any small market teams have ever been to get done
Also he isnt counting sign and trades

Miami ranks 44th in the country in population, man. Speaking strictly on media market size, cities like Tampa, Phoenix & Minneapolis rank higher.

It's a desirable location for players due to the taxes, weather and nightlife but technically speaking it is not a big market.

The internet and a global economy has made "big markets" mostly moot when it comes to signing elite players...

You don't need to live in LA...or Chicago...or Toronto...or wherever the fukk ever...to be a superstar or build a brand...

Probably why these big market teams always strike out on the top free agents...

Want to tell KD how you will make him a global superstar and enhance his brand and make him the king of a big market city...

When in real life he already the spokesperson for sonic...gut a 100 + shoe deal with nike already...already had his own movie that no one saw...and is pretty much the king of a state...

You can always sign Whiteside to a max so he can Andrew Bynum himself out the league though...

Population of the city proper =/= media market size

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Miami's metro area is the eighth-most populous and fourth-largest urban area in the U.S., with a population of around 5.5 million.

Miami is a major center, and a leader in finance, commerce, culture, media, entertainment, the arts, and international trade. In 2012, Miami was classified as an Alpha−World City in the World Cities Study Group's inventory. In 2010, Miami ranked seventh in the United States in terms of finance, commerce, culture, entertainment, fashion, education, and other sectors. It ranked 33rd among global cities

You're talking about the City of Miami (city proper) and not the Metropolitan area. Metro is over 5.5M and Miami-Dade County is 2.5M alone.
