I'm a pretty big Jay fan but I had this realization recently. Jay has absolutely gotten passes for making a few tracks that Nas would've been skewered for until the end of time on SOHH or TheColi.

Even a track like Show Me What You Got probably would've got Nas roasted on SOHH.
This dates back to the 90s as well. A lot of rappers got away with shyt that Nas would have or have gotten killed for. Nas could never put a “Whats Ya Phone #” or “Playa Hater/Another/One More Chance OG” or “Aint No nikka/Sunshine/I Know What Girls Like” and the list goes on.

I definitely think there's a certain expectation for Nas to be serious. or maybe he carries himself in a way where it seems like he should be.

I dunno. Jay definitely has a little more charisma, and I think humor may be a little more natural for him.

Nas has some slept on dry humor though.
That’s a misconception. Jay is way more awkward in person than on record. Nas is way more cool and funny I’m person than on record. Jay never had comedy moments like Nas had on the radio over the course of they beef.

I'm still trying to figure out why ya'll so turnt over a rapper who's literally been rapping all our lives ('91)?

Magna was trash and not too many people defend that one, but there are definitely Kingdom Come Truthers out there. I used to be one of them.

On everything, those albums are so bad I thought I picked up an early version/bootleg copy (I listened to the leaks for both before either officially dropped)

Jay-Z could not stay on beat on Magna.

Kingdom Come
is when I held him to the highest standard.

Man, I didn't know that. I really don't think people would hate though. Pete's beats on Lost Tapes 2 were a lot of cats favorite beats on the whole project. I really can't see anyone complaining about Nas and Pete Rock under any circumstances.

Pete's getting a lot of well earned and deserved love right now. I just can't see anyone giving grief to Pete for anything he did with Nas that we haven't heard. I can't imagine any of it being trash.
Bro people were complaining about the Art Of It beat. Saying Pete gave Nas a throwaway beat. Saying that it was lazy. All kinda shyt bro.

Man hip hop media would be calling nas a sellout until the end of time if he made that song. If nas made this song with this weak beat, flow and lyrics it would be over.

I should have used a better word.

First off, you don't have to take anything I say as truth. I used to be an A&R, and I never worked with Nas, or anyone way too close to him, but I have heard some stories from Young Guru and a couple other cats.

I shouldn't have said "he matured past that."

Of course it's occurred to me that Nas didn't work with them just because he didn't want to. I thin that's very likely.

I say that, and I also say that sometimes I've just had a hunch based on things that I've heard that he resents Illmatic a little bit. I think he even said something in an interview last year about how he loves/hates the album because of the precedent it set. Yea, here's the article: Nas Is Tired Of "Illmatic" Nostalgia: "I'm Done"

So between that article and some stories, I just took a guess that perhaps Nas is just on some fukk it, I don't wanna work with Illmatic producers my entire career.

Don't take what I'm saying as the truth. It's just a guess I've thought about from time to time. :manny:
I BEEN saying that he been over celebrating Illmatic. I figured he was tired of that shyt. Having to tell the same exact stories over and over again for fukking YEARS straight and still act interested or excited. nikka had a 30 year career damn near and people only focus on the first couple years.

I will say that if Nas had rapped on some of the trash that Timbo supplies on blueprint 3 (especially ghetto techno) he never would’ve lived it down.

"Ghetto Techno" never made any body's album. Honestly, Jay Z catches more flack for that one song that was never on an album than most artists do for having multiple songs like that on one album. And Jay Z's work with Timbaland has more than been critiqued especially when people call MCHG garbage and made up all those wack names making fun of the title. Yeah, some if the production in it wasn't good, but it still had songs like "Heaven" and "Part II".

Only thing that EVER truly puzzled me was why Nas hasn’t shown as much love to IWW as he did Illmatic. IWW Should’ve gotten the re-release treatment. That is a special album in his discography.

When has he said I pick wack beats to rap on? :dahell:

Another lie, myth and false narrative made to put Nas down and shift the overall outlook of his discography.

Let’s just talk about Nas last 3 projects. Was the production bad on Life Is Good, Nasir and Lost Tapes2? Not at all. But yet all I hear is Ross needs to executive produce for Nas

I ain’t even gonna hold u I bought the IWW Vinyl over the Illmatic Vinyl. I’m just trying to show more love at this point. I have Illmatic on cassette and on CD twice. I still have my original IWW cd but I felt I needed to add the Vinyl to my collection.

Wonder how many songs we’re getting:jbhmm:

I’m hoping 12-14. I can do without any features but if he’s going to throw anybody on it I could see Ross having a verse.

Its a long shot but i’d REALLY like to see Nas and Method Man do a song together, but thats just me dreaming.
