Alright now that I’ve calmed down. Cordae came correct and Gibbs tried but his verse felt like a rush job and Nas killed it as usual.

i had to imagine that i never heard the original in order to enjoy this.

the voice is there

you can't remake the old sound without using old samplers for that tonality even if you use plugins to make your new shyt sound old it's not the same.

people didn't "forget" how to make hip hop music the equipment changed. certain swing signatures came from the equipment directly... 99.9% of people are not using hardware of 2 inch reel tapes today.

straight digital production will always sound thin to analogue heads. get passed it or stay jonesing for the past.

In regards to sampling, not necessarily if the right material is itemized, you can get the sound you're looking for if what you're sampling is/has that sound.

that's cool if you think so I totally disagree

every evolution and new iteration of digital music storage formats has involved a listening hurdle to real audio heads because they hear the loss of weight and dimension in sound. from the first cd's pressed to all the early digital storage formats before lossless there's been a constant quest to get it right but it never is 100 the same and it physically can't be. what happens more often is we actually adapt to the change in sound but newer listeners more than old heads because they don't know what's missing

it was nikkaz who still swore by vinyl and 8 track tapes when we were coming up with cd's and cassette tapes... they could hear the characteristics we miss. how sound is recorded, mastered and played back all have a role in that "sound"

you can take a fire sample and choke the life out of it with digital degradation as often happens with digital samplers and unlike with analogue samplers it's not a desirable kind of degradation it's harsh. for example the first half of the cure on Kings Disease when hit sped up that sample it sounds harsh because of whatever digital sampler he's using algorithm. sped up samples sound way better on hard samplers the sound degradation is actually pleasant

The old track is way better, the pocket on the beat got more swing, it don't got the voice in the beat, it just sound sterile, no soul

I'ma be honest, people have forgot how to make hip hop

I was thinking the same exact shyt as soon as the beat dropped. The muddiness and grit of the original is partially what made it so dope.

I'm speaking strictly on the production aspect of the track though.

The grit and the swing... that that hip hop shyt that :wow:
Ill play the OG still, it is probably my favorite nas song. This jawn is cool tho :manny:

And this should shut down any questions if Nas still got it. He literally went back to his old flow at the end of the song.
He really did turn back the clock with the new verse

The only thing that really is different with Nas than in his prime is his breath control with his flow. He kinda gets winded, but it’s very few and far between and not noticeable like that unless you a super fan of his

Most of that can be attributed to age and Nas ain’t really a workout guy like that. If he dropped some pounds and laid off some of that henny & blunts :pachaha: he’d prolly sound just like 2001 Nas all the time

But he definitely still has IT
