It’s more than poetry. The guy who can rap, who also sings and has melodies, who can also play an instrument is more talented than a nikka with a limited array of flows and really one subject matter.

His verse that was supposed to be on Pop Smoke album was just a bunch of forced corny wordplay.

Those artists above Drake, Wayne, Roddy, Baby have more artistic value and their albums demand way more artistry.

Wayne did the dope boy shyt as good as anyone on C1 he moved on started experimenting with melodies, flows, singing, started using more devices in his lyricism, delved into multiple genres from rock to pop to R&B, changed his aesthetic multiple times. That’s artistic value and why Wayne went on to be one of the most influential rappers of All-Time.

Pusha on the other hand has always been the same nikka.

Yes but the guy who can rap, can rap to an average level if lyricism was considered, can sing average if voices were considered, and overly reliant on auto tunes a studio effect to sing hooks.

When you say playing an instrument to what level? Cause a whole host of rappers can play something small, I know Roddy can producer here and there, but he isn’t an Andre Mos Def, top 10 lyricist who can also sing and inAndres case even pen timeless classics in a pop format.

They aren’t J Cole a top 20 lyricist and able producer, or even Speaker Knockerz a multi talented producer rapper and pioneer of the style Roddy and Lil Baby follow.

You’re over playing the artistry part, in Roddy and Lil Baby’s case where they excel is their song writing.

Wayne is a legend no doubt, but at no point in time does he deserve grammy, other than for singles, there were always better rap albums released in the same year he released his best.

Yeah, but who cares about dope lyrics, dope production, and well-crafted songs? Wayne played the guitar, used Auto-Tune, and started diversifying his metaphors for eating p*ssy. That's real artistic value right there.

He didn't answer the question, and I'm guessing he's not going to acknowledge leaving Nas' name out either.

I want nas to win. I think he will win.

but Freddy Gibbs SHOULD win
Alfredo is good album, but I don't know if its just me but sometimes alchemist beats slow an album down so much it makes me want get it over with. Alchemist is a great producer, but sometimes it just comes off super slow. Could be me though. Kings Disease is as well rounded of an album that I've heard in a while. It has that boom bap, records you can throw on with your girl, party records, smooth records, songs like ultra black and till the war is won.. It's just a great body of work.

I’ll say this. Out of the 3 alchemist produced collab albums this year, I thought Alfredo was the most scattered and slowest production wise. Now, Gibbs chose all the beats, unlike Bandana where he let Madlib choose, and unlike Tea in China and Lulu where Akc chose for Boldy and Conway.

I get that Freddie as of now is a more well rounded artist than those 2, and people generally enjoyed Alfredo more than Tea in China. China and Lulu were much more interesting and versatile production wise IMO.

Alfredo is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite album of the year. Great overall effort. I MIGHT even put it over Bandana

But King’s Disease is superior. Nas rapped his ass off and Hit Boy crafted some of his all time best production.

Plus we got The Firm AND Dr Dre:banderas:

I’m pretty sure Nas doesn’t know who 9th Wonder is :yeshrug:

Esco got a special gift of getting grown men in their feelings without saying anything :mjlol:

Nas knows who 9th is.

He gave him a compliment on his last Breakfast Club interview.

Nas just never cared to use 9th’s beats. And he told 9th that to his face
