Its crazy how little defense is value by fans and apparently executives (which is crazy and explains why there are so many bum teams in the league). If you look at his boxscore sure hes the same player but last season he was 4th in DPOY voting above Embiid. He can switch 1-5 legit only other player is Draymond but Ben can stick to nikkas 1-5 for multiple possessions not just switches and lock them down.

I seen him do it to nikkas like Steph to Kawhi to Luka to even bigs like Sabonis and Bam. Sixers aint him have playoff and got swept emarrasingly. Boston aint even have a nikka taller than 6'8 240 to guard Embiid and they still got washed. And their defense too got exposed.

Tell me Ben was that type of defender out the gate? With that said he was overrated coming into the draft. Hes much more Lamar Odom (obviously better tho) than the Magic Johnson/Bron comps

Personally I want him to take one game and just launch 20 3’s regardless of game situation or plan just so everyone can stop asking him to shoot. He definitely needs to work on it, but Simmons not averaging 30 a night instead of 16 is not why the Sixers don’t win. For the amount of money Harris gets, he should be making enough 3’s for the 2 of them.

If Ben was this elite shooter who couldn’t stop shyt, he’d get way more love but would be more of a contributor to their shortcomings. Ben + decent jumper = as good as Kawhi, LeBron and Giannis, but because his jumper ain’t there (his FT% hurts his team more than his lack of 3’s) he’s a liability to too many people. It’s crazy. They should trade him for that snitch who used to play for the Lakers and see if they do better.

Stop making it about Tobias what he makes has zero to do with it nobody asked Elton Brand to pay him that money...Its about the fact Simmons cant shoot and score outside of transition buckets.

The criticism of not improving his offensive game is fair. The idea that it negates the rest of his game which is very impressive is bullshyt. The prevailing opinion of Simmons is “who cares if he can play defense, score in spite of his jumper, rebound and orchestrate an offense? Because he can’t shoot the way his entire supporting cast does, he hurts the team.” It speaks to what I said first which is “defense is a dirty word.”
If he was a Rondo, early Kidd, GP, early LeBron type of player who wasn't a good shooter but took and made enough to keep defenses honest while playing good defense, we wouldn't be able to say anything and the Sixers would have a higher ceiling. And those players are from an era, Kidd and GP especially, where they could get away with that. Orchestrating offense doesn't matter much when you automatically give at least one of your teammates an extra defender because yours is 9 feet away from you deliberately, or when he you don't draw free throws the way you should despite being an athletic player at 6 inches and 40 pounds heavier your matchups.

Until he shoots the ball beyond 12 feet the criticism will remain and be deserved. Defense is not a "dirty word" but it doesn't erase a guard lacking the most important skill in today's game and ignoring it, the importance of jump shooting today does in fact pretty much negate what he does. If Simmons was even a "streaky shooter" like young Bron the Sixers would run the East.

Thats real. The lifestyle is the allure for him and thats fine, but I'd never hinge my franchises fate on a guy like that. The only thing worse than being flat out untalented on the pro level is being a talented underachiever. I have no idea how anyone outside of Pennsylvania can root for that.
I don't know how his teammates like him. He flat out doesn't care. It's one thing to have weaknesses, every player does to some extent, but Simmons obviously hasn't worked on improving any of his offensive limitations.

What makes it even worse is how soft he plays on drives to the paint. He rarely looks to finish through contact.

Not true...his game hasn't evovled in the way we want it to....but he was a turnover machine in his rookie year...and his defense over the past 2 seasons is trending on elite

And just for the record...as a Sixers fan, I wanted him gone in a trade deal for Harden
