Not saying the players you listed are not smart because they are but the reason basketball players have more business avenues open to them has more to do with their celebrity and the fact they are easily recognizable. There’s 52 men on a roster and most of them don’t get into the league until they’re 22 and only have a finite amount of time to get as much money as possible and then they’re done by late 20’s. Basketball players come in at 18/19 and can play well into their mid 30’s. Then they have leagues overseas that will pay them millions of the NBA doesn’t want to. I think Kobe too had really good grades and basically could've gone to any university he wanted to regardless of basketball. We all know he spoke 2 languages and probably had good understanding of a third. Mutombo iirc came to Georgetown on a scholarship to become a doctor, had nothing to do with basketball initially.
