They have to get people invested in the regular season again and transition the NBA away from individuals and back towards teams, division rivalries, and conferences.

ehhh NBA Playoffs 2025 set record ratings....

Game 1 peaked at 11M viewers... which was higher than the 2024 World Series.

What would any of this have to do with the argument I made regarding the finals?
Also comparing any sport to baseball, which is a dying sport in the US isn't really the best strategy imho.

MLB is the NBA's biggest competitor for 2nd biggest league behind the NFL.

NBA just signed a $76B TV deal... set a record in revenue in 2024 with $11B, set record high ratings for the playoffs.. and is internationally bigger than the NFL.

But I guess Adam Silver should take notes from Coli Executives :dead:

MLB used to be the 1 sport in the US, it has steadily been declining to the point where its 3rd. So comparing the 2nd sport to a sport in 20 - 30 year decline isn't really a good thing.

The number of the deal sounds nice, but you have to account for inflation.
You also have to account for the fact that WB choose college football over the NBA as they weren't seeing a adequate return on investment.
Playoff high numbers are great, they should carry over to the finals, that is a issue.
Also I understand why at the time the NBA switched to its player centric format, but for the good of the league that have to transition to the NFL model of building around legacy franchises again.

Let's keep this in perspective....

1. How many of you on here have a Nielsen ratings box tracker on your tv? I'd guess no more than 1 person, if any of you. Do we need to explain again how this works and is wildly inaccurate numbers?

2. The highlight video on YouTube has over 3 million views already. People are interested.

3. I'd be interested to know how many YouTube TV STREAMS they had.

4. Who gives a shyt. I'd rather see a game like last night than a boring ass Lakers-Knicks finals with a giant ratings number, which really doesn't mean anything
Need to add the streameast #s too.

Nobody gives a f*ck about Oklahoma City & Indiana. Numbers wouldn't be this low if New York (or Boston, Lakers, Golden State) was playing :manny:

Who cares, ain't like NBA is gonna just vanish overnight cuz 1 game didn't break records. Also, as long as no Cali or New York teams in it, it's great for the culture :camby:

ABC SPORTING EVENTS ARE
STREAMED ON THE ESPN APP

That's ass, they play the same games with NFL streaming. So I'll be on streameast.

I don't seriously think they should put streameast numbers in the ratings, but that they should figure out a way to convert someone like me to a real platform.

Game one was about as bad as expected

Thursday’s Pacers-Thunder NBA Finals Game 1 averaged a 4.7 rating and 8.91 million viewers on ABC, marking the lowest rated and least-watched Game 1 of the Finals of the Nielsen people meter era (1988-present) outside of the two COVID-affected series, Bucks-Suns in July 2021 (4.5, 8.70M) and Heat-Lakers in the “bubble” on the final day of September 2020 (4.1, 7.69M).

Indiana’s last-second win, which peaked with 11.07 million during the final minutes, was the least-watched Finals game of any kind since that 2021 opener — and the ninth-least watched in the people-meter era.
Damn, I barely even remember the Suns making the finals. Life comes at you fast. :picard:
