Would rather just have them ease up on the foul calling and allow more physical play and bumps. Flopping is just the natural evolution of a players gamesmanship in response to the increased babying by the refs of anyone on the receiving end of a physical encounter.
the only thing that'll change with this new rule is the players wouldn't be as over the top with their exaggerations. they'll better their acting and then raise hell over how subjective/unfair the league is if they do end up getting fined later for simply "showing a natural human reaction to being hit with physical force" or whatever.
I was hoping someone would write this.
So, they're telling players that they can't body up on anybody, but then they tell them that they can't use theatrics either, because certain fouls abide by asinine idioms like "gotta go to the floor." Yet they know good and well if they actually went to the floor, then that'd get them a tech. Just ridiculous.
If they're not going to relax on calling physicality, then there's no reason for this rule to exist; it's going to create are more uncalled fouls, fined semi-flops, unfined flops and bytching. Oh, and more offensive ballet. I promise that it'll be a bigger mess than it was before, I just can't see it being any different.
