You're acting like Marley Marl didn't give RZA his first production equipment. So yeah, there was over lap between the two generations.

These kids are into the same shyt their parents were into. Hip-hop has been around 40 years. You keep comparing different genres of music (60's music and disco, new jack swing and the 70's) which don't fit here.

These kids most likely chose Kendrick because he hasn't dropped an album in 2-3 years. It's as simple as that. Like @cartierhoe pointed out Zion is familiar with older shyt. So nah, it's not what you're talking about.

From my perspective Kendrick was always the least popular of the 3. Drake and Cole always had a bigger and more organic connection to the people.

First of if you were 19 in 1995 you old as shyt so I see why you catching feelings. You definitely should know who Marley Mal is. You dam near went to school with that nikka. Don’t get ya cross colors in a bunch but in 2019 people consume shyt extremely fast and to even think the majority of 19 year old has interest in OutKast isn’t realistic.

The point of the thread is about Kdot though which I agreed he hasn’t made young nikka friendly music in a lonnnnng time. I love the the music he makes because it’s full of substance sonically and lyrically, but not really in a lane to be in the main mix of 19 year olds.

Why should they know who OutKast is? They were born in the early 2000’s. They were 5-6 years old when OutKast dropped their last album. Andre 3000 has no solo. They’re apart. They don’t do media appearances. They don’t tour. They have dropped no new music. They would probably literally know who these guys are apart more than they would know them together.

I wouldn’t expect every 19 year old to know who OutKast is that’s not realistic

I've literally never said anything about younger people not knowing who Outkast is. Or how dumb NBA players are. Not in a single post.

I've said before dozens of times (again, use the Search function if you don't believe me) younger fans aren't usually familiar with artists from earlier eras because there's no over lap between this generation and the last....there was from the 80's to the 90's.

And dude I quoted was naming completely different genres of music to give people a pass for not knowing who older acts are in the same genre.

As far as the rest of your post we'll have to agree to disagree. They put them on the spot and out of the 3 Kendrick is the one with the least amount of new music. If Kendrick just dropped a new album they'd probably say Cole. I doubt they'd ever say Drake as he constantly puts out music.

Where older artists are either the reason the new guy is in the game, or is seen as a mentor. Mobb Deep doing songs with Rakim. Outkast doing music with Slick Rick, etc.

There is virtually none of that in 2019. Not to the extent of the 80's and 90's anyway.

J. Cole is a hooper, and he's in with the young crowd and college kids since he came out... a video just dropped with bruh getting buckets in a pickup game with NBA players
Kendrick has ties to a few players, but that's it, he isn't some superfan/groupie like Drake, he comes off as unathletic and short, and the other 2's music clearly resonates more with NBA players

TPAB was too different for mainstream listeners, it had acclaim and real fans loved it but the casuals ain’t rock with it
