You can't compare 2000 to 2011. Youngsters will always share and discuss music, but the specifics and audience measurements will change. No one really buys music anymore.
Live.Love.ASAP/Purple Swag went viral out of nowhere. Had millions of views and downloads. In today's age where it's getting hard to get views, that's no small feat. Tracks off the mixtape he did that didn't have videos like "Bass"... I remember that shyt racking up views in the millions. There were 2 accounts that "Bass" in the millions of views at the same time.
And considering that Rocky became an international touring artist nearly overnight, I'm gonna say it translated to a lot of shyt. Rocky still has a cult following, and it's bigger than you think.
Nelly came out of nowhere. So did Rocky. That's all. How good their music is is another debate.

I don't remember the Aaliyah thread in depth but it's good to see you're on my nuts remembering everything I say.
I was probably laughing at Wacky at that point because he, like you, was so insistent on not presenting arguments/receipts. I wasted posts trying to understand his POV and build an argument. And instead of him respecting my effort and the debate as a whole, all he did was respond with loose statements and smileys.
So when you came in that Aaliyah thread and further exposed how delusional he was, I started laughing. Not quite the same thing as this thread but nice try.

I'm not saying he shined brighter than Nelly or even close to Nelly. The idea of someone coming out from nowhere is the central true scenario.

Let's name a rapper who had zero major features and, blew up off his first project, and is still around 4 years later like Rocky. With a first project that people still consider to be a hip hop highlight. You say that's "A lot of nikkas".
