This is a major reason why the cable companies and major ISP conglomerates are pissed off and lobbied ajit pai for this bullshyt because by their projections they lost so much money with just hosting the internet the cable section of their packages was their money makers but 1000's of people are cutting the cord. So they seek to attempt to either CONTROL or cripple the internet. most of this shyt was their plan all along. the internet had grown too powerful and too much of an equalizer.... Always count on the other man's greed.

You REALLY want to go backwards on technological innovation?!?! :why: we should be moving forward not backwards fam.

Well there's the rub. The people complaining aren't the ones innovating. They want more and more and more but they don't want to pay more. Tough luck :manny: The ISP's are the ones paying for all this bandwidth you enjoy. It's a service being provided to you. Y'all acting like they are trying to bottle air and sell it when that isn't the case at all. The internet isn't a human right, sorry.

All these people who are social media junkies and TV addicts have no one but themselves to blame. At the end of the day we are all consumers, if we stop consuming, or alter our consuming habits, the ISP's will have no choice but to adapt. That's how the game works.

You do realize this is about far more than social media right? This impacts ability to apply for jobs, to do research for college papers, to shop for cars, to obtain actual news among other things right? Under these rules providers could block information entirely if they don’t like it.

The job of the ISP is to generate bandwidth THAT'S THEIR fukkING JOB!!!!! :why:

problem is I'm just paying for data access that should not give you the keys on controlling that data access or censoring which websites I go onto, or throttling my speeds putting my IP into a slow lane because I wouldn't pay YOUR company more!!! this is blatant extortion and you want to play devils advocate for the current ISP's?!?! :why: :camby: the market is the people, and if 89% OF AMERICA said NO to this idea then theses a$$holes are not listening to the free market, the PEOPLE is the market! without the people these companies are going to fall.

There's gonna be someone with a pirate internet out there just you wait.

I can't believe people here on the fukking coli of all places are actually championing the idea of destroying or controlling the internet... :aicmon:You never played MGS2 this is control. plain and simple... wake the fukk up...:childplease:

Yes I do, and I don't believe that those things are going to be hampered to a significant degree I think it's largely hysteria. But on the other hand I do believe that most of the outrage regarding this issue is coming from people who are addicted to social media, binge watching shyt on netflix, hulu, etc; pirating content via torrenting, ie; shyt which pretty much rules all internet activity today. Don't kid yourself otherwise.

But even conceding that, ISP's are not charities, they are businesses providing a service. If they say you gotta pay more, that's that. Don't like it? Don't patronize their business. Take your ball and go home. That's just the reality of the situation.

I knew the writing was on the wall when former Philly mayor Michael Nutter wanted to have Wi-Fi spread throughout Philly and ISPs were like:whoa:. fukking pathetic of how something as simple as the internet can bring out the blood thirsty in some businesses and people.

My guy, you are paying pretty much NOTHING right now for unlimited access to basically anything you want. And even with that people freak out over 15 second ads on youtube, laugh when Wiki asks for donations....they are doing "their job," you just don't appreciate it. What the fukk you think was going to happen? This gravy train wasn't going to last forever. A tiered system makes sense business wise, plain and simple. If you can't afford it, adjust your browsing habits. You can live without binge watching Marvel comics movies on Netflix, sorry. Don't cry to the ISP's. Blame yourself for being a fukking tool.

BULLshyt.... this is about control plain and simple I'm not paying NOTHING FOR MY INTERNET ACCESS... :why: mistake number 1.

This is not a FREE market this is called a fukking MONOPOLY!!!! :why: they lobbying senators and govenors limiting their access to the internet using their own service not across multiple states... ask about COMCAST. next they now have access in which sites get service, nothing about this is going to be equal... most business startups use the internet what happens when you can't pay those extra fees anymore, or they don't like your youtube video!!!

YOU ARE NOT SEEING THE BIGGER PICTURE!!! :mindblown:

My OWN business use the internet to generate profit, gain users, focus advertising... now just imagine what more fees I'm gonna have to pay just get my stuff off the ground or imagine if they start blacking out websites or erasing them completely from the net!!! :stopitslime: like I said YOU are not seeing the bigger picture. they are getting CONTROL of what we see, and hear... this aint about this fukking bullshyt free market bullshyt you keep talking about this is them solidifying their monopoly!!!! DON'T YOU GET IT... even websites like the coli could be erased from existance or censored or TAXED... but hey FREE MARKET Right?!

You dumbass have no idea how far these fukking a$$holes are willing to go to control us...:pacspit:

WAKE THE fukk UP!!!! :damn:

This is shamefully dishonest trolling

People are being real short sighted about this

I think people are short sighted because people (for the most part) really dont fully understand how this will affect internet access for the daily consumer. I dont think that the people who are for keeping net neutrality have given a good explanation. most people need an actual chart and breakdown of what will happen with these rules being changed.

From what I am trying to understand to help breakdown things (people, let me know if I am wrong, and adjust as necessary. We all need to understand this):

So, say you have AT&T (or fill in your own provider), (just throwing in numbers for illustration)
-Flat rate of $50 to access the internet (basic sites)
- +$5.00/month to access busy forums full throttle (The Coli, etc.)
- +$15.00/month to access major streaming sites full throttle (YouTube, WatchESPN, sports streaming, movie streaming, porn, etc.)
- +$10.00/month to access social media sites full throttle (Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, etc)
plus a few other categories that these companies will break down to nickel and dime all of us.

Basically, for those categories, they will be run at slow (3g speed?, AOL dial-up speed?) speed to force people to pay up to use them.

The other thing that I dont understand is: will these companies try to hit us with these fees per device (home laptop, Roku, PlayStation, each phone on plan, etc.) ? My guess is they will def do that to milk more money from us
