:ehh: I really think dude is genuine..he really just raps about his thoughts and life experiences. For every song with an "agenda" he has a song about his own downfalls, trials and tribulations. He's not a bad rapper either. Dope song. Still don't get all the hate for him on this site
He's been doing this shyt long enough and in the same lane for long enough that im sure he's genuine. My mulatto friend was a big fan of him some 5 years ago and still is.

So....you know what that fan base like

Nah...there are plenty of dope white rappers. He's just not one of them and he tries too hard to pander.
Rhythmless, swagless, no inflection, his patterns are basic, the beats he rhymes on are dated, and he has no "snap".
There is no conviction behind his words and he just raps "at" the beat instead of being a part of it or bending it with his words...or bending his words with the rhythm. Son doesn't have "it".

That's fine as your opinion & I respect it but of all the artists I've heard in the last 10 years he told his own story while a lot of these rappers have the exact same background & struggle & bring nothing new to the table. There are even white boys who tell the exact same story as hood rappers & that's fine but we've heard those stories a thousand times. I loved that he brought his own perspective & struggle in a unique way. His arrangements, storytelling & ability to become part of the music on his first album was 2nd to NONE in that year while all these other rappers just rap about the exact same thing & flow the exact same way. A lot of rappers behind the scenes respect him because they understand certain elements of music that a lot of people just don't "get" & won't & that's fine.

And as stated... I completely respect your view of Macklemore.

Honestly it's worth listening to, at least the first four minutes and 30 seconds.

IMO, he's a competent rapper but he's just not good or interesting enough for me to suffer through his shyt. I understand why social justice crowd flocks to him, I'm fine with letting him do his thing from a distance.

I think it's possible to be genuine and still pander...I'm sure these are his real thoughts, he's been putting in work for much longer than a lot of people would think. But looking at his track record he and his team know how to pinpoint a niche market like a muthafukka.

That downtown song was a flop but it was mostly because people got hip to his bullshyt...it was still a nice attempt

Wack song but he went for the gold on trying to appeal to the right demographics, it was just too much of a cluster fukk. All of his records before that hit the right demos too, but from a distance the shyt looked way too deliberate.

He's realer than most. It is true though. His popularity wouldn't be where it's at if it weren't white privilege.

Let's be real though. If he were to admit it, then he would have folks calling him racist and etc like when Eminem said that shyt on without me though theres nothing racist about him acknowledging that shyt. It's a lose lose situation for him which he's gonna have to accept.

song is too long but its cool. he has some good lines in it. i think its too long to be a single that could be everywhere, but i figure if they had packaged it as a more single ready item, it woulda had to be watered down. i hope everyone would listen to the whole thing once they press play.

people always want rappers to speak up about shyt like this and other social issues. and then when one does, hes a lame cac. #colilogic

i may not be a fan of mack, but at least he shoots his shots, owns the ups and downs he has and takes chances.

we need more of our own artists with alot of visibility to do the same thing. peace to the ones that already are.

I don't see what there is to hate about this guy. I don't like his music, but the guy is self aware which is pretty much all I ask for out of a white rapper. Well....besides making decent music. I'd rather this guy do things like put on black legends and talk about his awareness of his place in hip-hop than some of these others like MGK and Yelawolf who rap because they can't actually do rock music or try and get us to accept the confederate flag.

i'm not listening to this shyt.

but..as a cac myself, i'll say Macklemore is what hip-hop gets for accepting a drug addled, racist song making, cross dresser in Eminem.
so now hip-hop has an agenda driven, pandering, terrible and an actual homosexual white rapper begging for acceptance while getting plaudits and rich from it.

why do white rappers all need some goofy gimmick.
i respect someone like G-Eazy who just makes music and gets on with it way more than Macklemore.
