Err...this can run regular Steam (not SteamOS) alongside the Xbox stuff, correct? :patrice:

If it's true Windows then I don't see why not. S Mode Windows is the super locked down one with Store Only apps and APParently (get it? Breh? BREH?!) this is based on Win11 Home. :yeshrug:

At nowhere near the same experience. You can sh*t on the Portal all you want but you can't tootsie slide over the fact that it's good at what it was designed to do at a fraction of the cost of any other handheld.

I really don't understand this desire to solicit people to compromise with less when a few extra dollars opens them up to much more options

hmm, this is tricky to tackle

Do you plan to subscribe to gamepass? if the answer is yes, then get ally x or xbox ally

If you have no interest in gamepass, then go wtih Steam Deck or Legion GO S. The Legion Go S runs on the Steam OS, and it will give you better performance than the steam deck

1st gen ally is an ice device you can get for cheap, but the major drawback is battery life and that won't fit the use case you mentioned above.

Overall, You might be best off going with Ally X because it has improved battery life, good performance, and gives you easy access to gamepass, steam, epic game store, and other storefronts. If you don't care about flexibility between store fronts then Legion Go S might be a good bet, but price-wise most likely better off going with a steam deck.
I have GamePass and PS+ right now.

I like both but wifey HATES anything from Xbox. Games we both like are PS5 while games only I like (think Elden Ring) are on Xbox.

This is for cats that can't get WetBox in their travels so they bring their Xbox instead. :mjlol:

What that price looking like, though?

If you have GamePass, then ally x or the xbox ally is the way to go due to ease of use and having access to library already. You might already own some games that are on a windows machine due to buying them on xbox, but not all games are play anywhere. I use my first gen ally as a gamepass machine tbh, and it works for my use case. I do play some games on steam of course but that's usually for older games. Just don't get 1st gen ally due to weak battery life

The cheapest Steam Deck is $399, you can't by an ROG retail for less than $799 all while the Portal is $199...where is the few dollars difference that you speak of?

Every other handheld will literally cost you the price of another console while the Portal will cost you the price of a pro controller. It's why its weird to see people here complain about the price of PS5 Pro but be willing to drop $800 on a niche handheld.

Literally paying to do the same shyt you can do with your phone for the last 10 years.
Right. Ive been remote playing xbox on my phone since xbox one. Its ridiculous people pay for that. Remote play is only as good as your internet connection no matter how optimized for the ps5 the portal is.

Microsoft basically tossed a bag at Asus and slapped their logo on a product that was already doing well. Genius fukking move. Even though the ROG Ally isn't as popular as the Steam Deck, it's definitely the best handheld on the market. I'm not a console fanboy, but Sony really got clapped up by this collaboration. :wow:

PS Portal isn't really the same thing as a Steam deck or this. You can get a brand new portal for $200 or used for even less.
An Asus Xbox is a dedicated handheld that will cost possibly $700. They're farther apart. It's more comparable to the Switch 2.

The Portal connects to the PS5 so if your PS5 is wired at home, it’s much stronger than a regular remote play.
