traveled all over the world

been to every region in this country:martin:

this has less to do with geography more to do with culture

But the culture is different depending on the area of the south you at. You looking at it from a different point of view. Hell cultures are different in my state, SC, depending on where u at. The lowcountry is much different than the upstate. It may be hard for you to see it.

ive spent ten years in the south

5 of those years in sc, my family is from the chuck. As a kid i used to mistaken people from the low country as being caribbean due to their unique accents lol

I know all about the fact that there are different variations of southern culture in the south

There still however, is an overall umbrella "southern" culture and concept

That the north doesnt seem to have

The same could be said of the north. Big dense cities, public transportation etc. I know growing up we said they were from up top or up north That could be Detroit to NYC to Baltimore. All that was the same to us. Just like u saying now. But as an adult I can see they have differences.

In texas and Louisiana, when we hear south, we dont think of no virginia or carolina. Thats north-east coastish to us. It aint mississipi, florida, arkansas, etc
interesting considering what most look at as the "traditional" south seems to be the south-east

Because south was where our main home was so they kept the bond that was started there. There is less unity in the north because a lot of our people moved up there from the south and when you do that you become a nomad of sorts and lose a base identity until you find a new home which is how many scattered bases in the north came to be.
