De La Soul and Gangstarr should be up there .. Having Doom up there is just some hippity hop nerd shyt .

When I first started finding hip hop for myself Operation Doomsday and mm..food held me down but if doesn’t make a major impact ..or any impact mainstream why is he there over nikkas that make stone cold classics that were both quality and hit hard in the mainstream.

like you’d have a hard time Doom has a better discography than nikkas like Common,Cube and Face .

True.

The thing about these online people and their lists, is that they either seem to want to appear like super Hip Hop heads, or they're too new to the culture to have lists that really reflect the actual classics. DOOM's catalogue definitely ain't seeing Common's, Cube's or Face's. But I'm pretty sure they're not even familiar with those discographies. These dudes ain't really qualified to speak on these things.

And Gang Starr and De La should definitely be in there.

I’m sorry but having two legendary albums is not a top tier DISCOGRAPHY!! I expect atleast 5 good albums for someone to be in this discussion. For example I have Nas over jay-z as a rapper and think illmatic is better than blueprint or RD. But I think Jay has a better overall DISCOGRAPHY! I’m expecting a top 10 to be full of 10 artists with 2 classic albums and ATLEAST 3 other good-great ones.
Hit boy run put Nas comfortably ahead of Jay

They definitely have a much better discography lol. They never missed, probably all classics.

Why don't people look at "Idlewild" as a Kast album?

I give Kast three 5 Mic classics (Atliens, Aquemini, Speakerboxx/Love Below), two 4 mic albums (Southernplayalistic and Stankonia) and one 3 mic (Idlewild).

Hell of a run, but it's also held up by the fact that they stopped releasing music as a group before it got stale / they lost their touch, which was obviously a choice from 3 Stacks.

Nah, those albums didn't push Nas's discography forward, with the exception of Magic. Nas should've done that album-run with somebody else.

Jay has less misses than Nas does. If we're being honest, after IWW, Nas was hit or miss for the rest of his career. He's one of my favorite MC's of all-time, but he has a lot of albums that he probably shouldn't have made. Joints I'll probably never listen to again.

Southernplayalistic and Stankonia are right up there with Atliens though. Stankonia too.

All that live instrumentation on Southernplayalistic is way too slept-on. Rico and them went crazy on the production for that. That's a Top 3 album in their catalogue.

That six album run from Kanye is THE reason why even today, when he’s become a disgusting, vile, tap dancing, perverted, c00nish, embarrassment of a human being, that the world at large refuses to throw him away.

He deserves to be in the top ten for that alone, hell probably top 5. But NOT number 1 as he’s dropped too many turds since that magical 03-2011 era.

Nas should he no lower than top 3, and with the Hit-Boy run he’s comfortably ahead of Jay-Z.

I’m not a Doom fan so i’d replace him with Common or Scarface but I ain’t super mad at Doom’s inclusion.

Come on now. RD, BP, Black Album and AG are a tough

i think Jay va OutKast discography discussion is a perfect example of “levels”.

Those four you listed are good albums but mainstream wise nobody outside of hip hop nerds like us gives a fukk about anything on AG and Reasonable Doubt was largely ignored when it released .

OutKast’s “big 5” are both critically acclaimed but also have records that hit hard mainstream across all 5 albums . Even the album ppl halfway try to front on (Southernplayistic, their reasonable doubt I guess) has a song that hit #1 on the rap charts. Their combination of quality and overall impact cannot be matched by Jay’s shyt .

That’s fair but impact can hit later on. RD had impact later on. You could say the same for Illmatic. Just cause the impact wasn’t there upon release doesn’t mean it shouldn’t get points for impact. Just quality wise I like Jays 4 better but it’s definitely not a landslide or anything

i agree wit u i just was using that more of a general example of a huge good-great album discog artist vs a better artist with smaller amount of classic albums but they may be more groundbreaking discog..... Hitboy run is post covid so im used to using the pre covid nas discography in the jay vs nas disc. battle conversations. Me personally i would have guys like currensy and roc marci on here but im in the minority as most wont even consider underground albums on these lists...i feel like currensy has dropped atleast one good-great project a year sometimes 2. And this is going over a 10 plus year span. One could say spitta discography is better than waynes but im sure ill be negged and attacked for this but oh well thats how i feel about a discography battle.
