Because they just came off their worst selling home console (excluding the Virtual Boy experiment) of all time and barely managed to sell over 13 million consoles in 4 years.
They also just came off a highly profitable year :ehh:

The PS4 console was profitable day one for Sony launched a year later and has sold over 50 million.
"Profitable" in probably less than $80 made per console sale. When you factor in advertising, shipping, R&D, etc. that amounts to not very much or even a loss.

The PS4 was also by design not a powerhouse system.
It was pretty much the most power you can get at a "console price"
I think the line of thinking here is Nintendo can pass on all these gimmicks they try and develop a system that isn't top of the line (because the XBO and PS4 also aren't by design) and still keep up with their competitors. Instead Nintendo deliberately develops these themed gimmick consoles where if the gimmick takes off you have a Wii situation and if it doesn't you have a Wii U.
their strategy works for them. :manny:

so its a fact its the greatest game of all time? thats not an opinion?

:mjlol:

i originally said people bought n64 for goldeneye more than zelda, you said they didn't, then the numbers proved they did. why can't people on this forum just take an L when wrong?
I personally think SM64 is the greatest but thats not the consensus. Ocarina of Time being the greatest is the consensus. Goldeneye not being a system seller is just my opinion and three things help form that opinion. 1. Zelda sold more units in other countries. For example, Goldeneye did poorly in Japan and only had a slight edge in sales in US and Europe. 2. I didn't know anyone who bought or asked their parents to buy a N64 because of Goldeneye. Most people who bought a N64 had bought it for another game. Goldeneye was just the icing on the cake. and 3. System sellers

But you said it was the biggest system seller and that's not true. Zelda games dont sell nearly as much as people think.
I'd argue that Zelda games would sell more on another system or a Nintendo console with true third party support.

I've always felt like Zelda is held back by Nintendo's focus on the casuals and children markets. Zelda (and metroid) are very much games that appeals to the hardcore market but that market is no longer willing to buy a Nintendo system just to play those games. Nintendo consoles have ended up being the system parents buy their kids for cheap, but kids don't play Zelda like that.

Goldeneye was most definitely a system seller. There was nothing like it on consoles at the time and the hype was unreal.

Basically, yeah. If they simply came out with a console that lacked in enough beef to sell at a decent profit while being 'traditional' enough in format or function to be attractive to develop for, they might be able to swing back a new wave of 3rd party support with all kinds of games. Basically, Nintendo could actually afford to do what Ouya was trying to do and not wind up looking totally stupid.

The Wii has unfortunately given them carte blanche to continue their silly game of Gimmick Roulette, though.

I take that back. It is a system seller you're right because they bundled it and released it close to the holidays.

why do you people love to disagree for the sport of it?

I told you goldeneye was a system seller, why would I lie about that?
I forgot it was that popular that's why I dismissed your post then I started recalling nights I stayed up at my friends house playing this shyt which prompted me to research.

The Wii is really the only time they managed to do that after rescuing the western home console industry in the mid-80s. Very few Wii owners from that group went on to buy a WiiU, for whatever reasons.
